Been looking at these over the last few years, last of the cars on my tick list to own whilst I'm young (the other being an R32 GTR but I'll leave that until last I think) Had the mk1 Focus RS my father repaired (catd) for a few months now but had a good offer on it and have taken a deposit with the guy collecting the car Saturday :)

Seen this on pistonheads and have been in contact with the guy, planning on picking it up on the Sunday providing my sale goes through fine and it is as good as it looks in the Ad.

Know there's a few DC2 owners on here so.... things to look out for, good price etc (agreed on £4750 if car is up the the standard he says) The 4 tyres are fairly new Avon and have 7mm+ tread and the cambelt was done at 50k, think the ad covers everything else.

Thanks.

haha the old JDM vs UK.... I like both TBH, even if the UK front end does look a bit "stuck on" :D

Looks like a good example, make sure it drives 'right'. Getting on a bit now and they do suffer from tierdness. Driving a numerous ammounts of a car can give you an instant feel for what feels right and how it drives, get the feeling that's gonna be a good one on just how it's presented (and the fact he says he's changed the bushes:p).

Check the syncro's on the gears, so get it upto a good high RPM and change gear especially in 3rd and 5th.
Should be a nice smooth rev upto the redline, slight kick at VTEC, and no smoke, at all.

If there's rust under the back arches I'd be tempted to walk away, or start looking at getting a grand knocked off, which most sellers will never do.

Been on www.ITR-DC2.com? Wealth of info on there, also www.type-r-owners.co.uk

Cheers Muffin'

I've spoken with the seller over email and he specifically mentions how good the underseal etc is and how it has no rust (unlike many)

Seems like a nice genuine chap -

"The car is exactly as described, there are some stone chips here and there and some little scrapes on the wheels but for a 13yr old car its in fantastic condition. The only bits that would require any attention would be the bubbling on the front lip of the bonnet (common problem; after washing, water gets trapped inbetween the lip and a rubber seal) and spoiler (Jet wash unfortunately peeled a couple of 5p sized patches) which currently have a bit of touch up on and mild parking ding in the offside rear wing, which is really not that noticable. As I said I havent repaired them even though it wouldn't cost that much. One of the problems is that colour matching the Championship White is really difficult, so you just end up with a car with different colour panels unless you go for a full respray. DC2's were only given a light coating of paint and underseal to keep weight down, which is why they are so prone to tin worm. Other than that there is absolutely nothing else that this car wants for. As you probably know the main thing really is to buy a DC2 with a clean chassis, as many have hidden rust issues. FHSH is a must. If there is any rust around the arches it means there is a lot more damage underneath and its over £1500 to repair. The engines go on forever so even high mileage examples as long as they are well maintained are fine, but difficult to move on.

I will miss this car, I love driving it. Its not as powerful as the cars you have owned or my Evo, but its power is much more usable on British roads and the delivery is a lot smoother than a forced induction car. So it is in my view a lot more pleasurable to drive. I ride bikes as well and the DC2 is like a 600 whilst forced induction is like a 1000cc bike. I used to have a Fireblade and it would do 100mph in 1st gear (just scary and unusable), but my GSXR600 was much much more fun.

£4750 a fair price? I've watched the market on and off for the last 3-4 years and it seems they have dropped a bit recently, seems like an excellent price to me providing the car is as described. FHSH, low mileage etc.

What's peoples opinion of higher mileage examples? Is it more of a case it's fine as long as it has been looked after sort of thing?

ermmm Slightly on the highside for the 'market average', but in your shoes I'd snap his hand off. Gives you peice of mind and a nice point to start your ownership. Another one that's the same condition with £500 less is usally at the other end of the country.

Fundementally it's the same as the better looking JDM but it's for going down a B road not posing in the street, UKDM is better on insurance too.

Yeah it's only a 3hr trip on the train, plus I made £500 on the RS so I dont really mind if this one is on the higher side of the market and I lose a bit come when I finally get the Skyline, from the ad it seems like it's had everything done and will want for nothing :)

If you're backwards, yeah. :p Now stop ruining his thread. Just because it's a UKDM doesn't mean we can pick on the poor fugly thing's thread. :(

Still not answered the question yet btw. ;)

The fact that the bodywork is going on these now I find off putting.

Rusting rear arches and bodywork is never going to be cheap to repair to a good standard.

I've also seen quite a few Hondas suffering from terrible paint, with the white looking very flat, EK9, DC2 and even a DC5. The later being advertised for sale!
