Hey all,

I've only had my Civic 1.6 Sport for about 7 months, but i'm already in the looking for my next car, if things go well with a property deal i have lined up with my girlfriend, i should have my finance from this car gone by mid-late march and not have to worry about buying a car on finance again, as nice as it was getting the car without making 1 big payment, i think thats the way i'd like to do it next time.

I've been eyeing up a few possible cnadidates for a next car, and have shortlisted it to a few that do stand out, the only problem being most of them are 2 seat coupe's and with my girlfriend having an MGF it'd be nice to keep one "practical" car in the relationship, but still.... :)

A few of the cars i have shortlisted in my head (When next summer rolls around i'll be 27 with 1 NCB (Due to an accident last year, small one but wiped the NCB i had, for £700 of damage that i offered to pay for :(...aaaanyways!)

  • 1994-97 Supra (Considering Turbo or NA, but heard the none is a bit gutless?)
  • MK2 MR2 (Heard pretty much the same in regards to the turbo/NA)
  • Integra Type-R - I really love the styling, would love the power increase (Then again, i'd get that with all cars) but i know the majority of power is up in the upper echelons of the revs as with my current car, and i don't get as many chances to open it up as i'd like, but its something thats really interesting me, although the temptation to go RWD is something that seems to stand out stronger)
  • Civic Type-R EP3 - I love the feeling, handling and ride of my car now, i just wish it was a bit more gutsy, maybe this is the answer?
  • Honda S2000 - Convertible would be nice, always loved the look and its RWD, and always had good reviews!
I guess thats the main 4 candidates, maybe a BMW 3 series coupe, but with most of the cars above i don't have a massive idea on MPG figures, my Civic usually returns 37-38 town miles, and 44ish combined, but obviously i'm prepared for the fact that all these cars listed will not do that much!

Have some typically suitable OcUK style replies:

Ferrari 348
Skyline GT-R R34
Nova with a Bodykit

Now, hopefully, with the stupid suggestions done, the more helpful posters will get a look in before the morons post the usual rubbish.

Yeah, thats the one thing i was unsure of, lets say 8.5k max for now, so i know the teg & CTR might be pushing that for a decent one (DC5 anyhow, would it be much more recommendable over a DC2?)

Thankies! :)

You wont be getting S2000's for that money either.

And N/A Supras are not gutless - you still get 0-60 in 6.5 seconds, which is similar to the Teg.

Yep, S2000 was a pretty long shot in the first place, and more of a "car after next car" type thing i think.

Thanks for the clarification on the Supras, maybe i've been hearing some bad advice on the NA ones is all then :)

I actually looked that up after you said it was 6.5 last time ;) it was actually 6.9 fresh out of the factory, you'll be hard pressed to find one in that nick these days!

I've always been under the impression the n/a supra was 0-60 7.5 seconds, and i've driven that and a gen 6 celica which is 0-60 7.8 secs and both cars felt very similar.

6.5 seems unlikely to me.

I timed my n/a auto at 6.7 on a g-tech so 6.5 is easily possible with a good launch and should be even easier in a manual

and for the op's question - what do you want from the car if you just want a nice looking motorway crusier get the supra, if you want to get into trackdays get the teg. If you want a practical car get a 3 series

In all honesty, its pretty much a mix of all 3, most of my bigger journeys are either 5 minutes or up/down the M1, trackdays are something that i would really like to get into, and i guess 4 seats WOULD be nice...

I guess thats poiting to the 3 series so far, but i've just had a thing for a long time about wanting a Supra, and think it could be something that i just have to do, if even just for a short while :)

G-tech isn't reknowned for being a particularly accurate device though. Book time is 6.9, and I would say that you would still be in the 7s with a good launch from an auto.

You could get a nice auto TT with a couple of grand spare incase things go wrong for your budget!

And you could use that extra left over money to buy a session or two with a psychiatrist to deal with the depression that will follow after driving one :p
