Integra Type-R's...and more...... :)

Impreza insurance costs are barking mad - I briefly played with the idea of an MY2000 UK Turbo 2000. Insurance? £2k despite Group 17. Double the price of the 530i, which is the same group.
 
My grandad used to own a Supra, pretty sure it was a turbo too. Was about 5 or 6 years ago now. I managed to fit in the back (that was aged 13-14) and I remember sitting nxt to my Grandmother occasionally, it's got space - just crap for long distance.

Was quite cool to have a Grandad who drove a Supra, it had custom alloys, custom exhaust which sounded amazing and heavily tinted windows - you get a lot of looks in these cars, was great fun.

Can't beat those seats either and the stereo and dash is practically shaped towards the driver - it's like a cockpit. Eric Clapton - Layla and him wearing his aviators with his foot to the floor... memories lol.

Yeah, the Hyundai Coupe was only there as another FWD 1.8-2.0 Litre Coupe, nothing more, hehe, with the Supra insurance being sky high, i'd say my top 3 would be nailed down to:

Integra Type R 1998 UK - just something about it
MR2 MK2 Rev3 - Cheapest but a big advernture
RX8 - Bit lighter still on the insurance, practical, still rwd and fun

Decisions decisions :(

With the 330ci price being pretty decent on both cost & insurance that might be a factor too, when the time comes, just need to find out the usual mpg/servicing costs etc.. which is where i fear the Beamer might bite me in the ass if i went that way.

I'd be more and more tempted for the MR2 had it not been for it leaving us short of any 4 seater at all, and i know my gf loves her MGF and i'm happy she has it :) Only other solution is get an Mr2 for fun and keep the Civic, but thats a tad OTT i think, time will tell, i'll be looking around facts and costs etc.. tomorrow :D

Mileage isn’t much of a concern on a well serviced teg, they are pretty much bullet proof. Main thing is to check that is has been regularly serviced, regular oil changes, cambbelt done and if not use that as a haggling point. No problems with VTEC changeover, they can suffer from gear syncro problems so make sure you can select all gears without any problems. Higher mileage examples may have worn engine mounts, listen for knocking and driveline shunt. Mine is on 72k and still has the original clutch. Make sure you test drive a couple though so you have something to compare.
 
Christ, insurance for Imprezas has gone through the roof since I owned mine. Even with all it's mods declared, I was only paying ~£600 FC at 26 :eek:
 
the impreza is the boy racer's weapon of choice, a favourite of carjackers and a popular getaway car. is it any surprise it costs a packet to insure?
 
Ok, RX8 planned for next week, now to find a few local teggies, and an MR2 or 2 to have a think about the feel of them :)

Most MPG figures i've found so far seem to point around this mark:

MR2 GT:
Overall mpg ................... 28.0
Motorway/Touring mpg ................... 36.2

RX8:
Combined MPG 23-26mpg Depending on which spec

Integra-R 1998 UK:
28ish combined if in VTEC a lot
32ish if not in VTEC that much

BMW 330ci:
Average around 32mpg

If these figures match up to what you're getting, then hmm, quite low for the RX8 :(

 
Becareful with the MR2 GT. Even though the UK car is really a GTi-16 every place (insurance and such) list it as a GT which is what the fully speced Jap Turbo is. :(
 
Get the Supra - I am reconsidering this option as an "in-between" fun car too.

I have driven the N/A Manual (Targa - full blitz kit - won Jap shine detailing contest) and the TT Auto (just a uber quick TT)

The auto was much much faster, but the N/A was by no means slow. Infact, I think I will end up with the manual N/A as it is easier to manage at my age/experience.

The seats in the back are pretty shocking, but you can fit small hobbits in there if needed. The engine bay is huuuge and I have a picture of my cousins slightly modified engine bay somewhere (pics coming). The interior is a bit aged and has a few parts which were borked on all 3 Supras I have been in.

However, they really are a nice looking car and quite unique given the age and cost of the car.
 
The MX5 would be a really nice thought, and it was something i considered in my mind, but at the same time i'm actually rying to dissaude myself from the MR2 for now so that at least one of us does have a car with back seats, so i guess in the end it'd be:

330ci
Integra-R UK DC2
RX8

So i'll have to have another look around those avenues :)

For Fox/Any other Beamer heads, what age.mileage 330ci would be worth looking at? Also would it be at all mor economical witha 328? (Saw fox say in the past the 325 & 328 only differ in capacity & power and make no real bearing on mpg/costs at all)

328i is not really any more economical perhaps less so as its the older M52TU engine not the M54. £8k probably not enough for a good 330Ci Sport but you might manage a 330i Sport saloon.
