But its substantially more expensive, where as a 2700k and a 3820 are relatively close price wise.
I though the whole point of SB-E was 6 cores. With only 4 in 3820 I am not sure it is any better than 2700K.

Yeah, its comparable to a 2600/2700K.If you can get it over clocked sitting @ 4.5Ghz its not going to be a slouch![]()
Wait for IB or you'll be kicking yourself.
This chip is no better than a 2600K/2700K, the 16x/16x multi GPU support and quad channel memory are more tick box features than significant performance benefits.
It's not like you won't be able to sell a IB/LGA1155 bundle if you do ever decide to go with a hex SB-E.
Does anyone REALLY upgrade their cpu on a given platform? To be quite honest once i mate a board and cpu for me or a client it usually sees it out to its EOL or sold on/traded etc.. One thing i've noticed with early 'future proof' boards is that once the cpu eventually comes, there will have been a newer chipset or boards with better features such as beefier power delivery (or say USB4/SATA4 hypothetically speaking of course etc).. which everyone will prefer.
