Intel Broadwell-E Scheduled For Launch in Q1 2016 – Will Feature 8 and 6 Core SKUs, Retaining Suppor

I might wait until Broadwell-E launches instead of buying my mobo next month as I want to make 100% certain that the Sabertooth X99 I have my eye on will be compatible, I know they say they will keep X99 but you never know with Intel.

All existing x99 boards will be compatible with an UEFI update.

Could be interesting if the Broadwell-E parts follow the lead of the broadwell Xeon's like the E3-1285 v4 and have 128mb eDRAM.
The E3-1285 v4 is a 95W part too, but I'd imagine an enthusiast version would stay with 140W to allow head room for over clocking.

This is key for me. I'll upgrade to an 8-core for more render-speed and the incremental platform benefits (DDR4, higher max RAM, better connectivity) - but I'm not paying £800 on top of the platform for it.
If they bring out a £400 8-core (In the same way that the 3930k had 6 cores like the then top chip), then I'll upgrade.
Here's to hoping.

Like we both said really hope they have 8 cores on the mid tier part this time around (Am doubtful lol), if not might have to save some pennies for the top dog..

I don't think there'll be an iGPU on Broadwell-E parts. I do wonder why Intel is releasing this. The current enthusiast-class CPUs are still doing more than well enough to hold one over until Skylake-E, so I'm curious what its position will be in the market and current lineup of chips. Can't wait to find out more!

No IGPU on X platform chips!!

My HW-E is very poor clocker and cant do 125 strap no matter what, so im stuck with 2666mhz on memory at lest i spend whole weekend on getting timings down as much as possible.
Only reason for me to jump in to BW-E is that I lost silicon lottery :/

Maybe they will clock better ?? Can only hope :p If it would do 4.6@125 strap i would pay for an upgrade.
Atm my setup in single thread is just TINY bit faster than my sandy@5ghz was :P

You are too funny dude: You have a 5820k clocked at 4.5Ghz and you are complaining? There is no pleasing you lmao :p

This is coming out a bit too early for me to think about upgrading to it. I'll wait for Skylake-E to come out and grab an 8 core CPU then.

My i7-3930k is still rocking and plays all the games I want to play perfectly. The only thing I miss about the new X99 motherboards is some of the new features like NVMe support and M.2 slots but I can hold out on that until Skylake-E I think.

Anyway I simply don't have the money to upgrade at the moment I'm afraid.

That's not a bad overclock Haswell-E.

Well at least there is an upgrade path for X99 MB you never know with Intel. I just hope the overall quality of Broadwell-E is more consistent you could pick up some really poor clockers with Haswell-E.

More interested to see the IMC strength...Currently Haswell-E 3333+ needs an exceptional IMC for proper memory stability. Skylake with two channels down, assuming the DIMM are capable 4000+ is achievable

That 4.5 is only semi stable at 1.38 vcore :D and it is 2% yes TWO PERCENT faster than my Sandy bridge was@5ghz and that was full on stable.

Ofc talking single thread here.

All in all mb memory and cpu cost me well like 500 pounds for 2% speed gain :D Only upgraded cause Sandy's warranty was running out and well upgrade Urge :D

And that shows that there will be people like ME who will drop money to go from HW-E to BW-E just to see how they are and have new toy to play around for few weekends. We dont need it but its like i dont need a car its on garage 6 days a week and i still have it cause i like to take it for a blast on B roads for fun :D

Whats the point of life and earning money if you wont buy things to have fun with them :D

ps. ATM got 1k saved up for VR helmet + gpu upgrade once i can get my hands on one price does not matter much :P can pay 500 pounds for helmet if i can get one this year :D

Wouldn't it make sense for Broadwell to be 6/8/8 and Skylake to be 8/8/8? Or have I misunderstood how -E tends to work?

Edit: Misunderstood! Disregard :)

The reason I'm considering the upgrade are: Ease of just popping a new chip in and getting 8 cores for £450 rather than the £800 a 5960x is.

8 cores will be a nice upgrade from my 5820k to be honest, especially for the £250-300 it will cost after selling it.

I wonder what price you could sell a Intel i7 5960X for once Broadwell-E is released to buy. I expect you could probably get at least £500 for it if it is a good
overclocker? or will the Intel i7 5960X go right down in price retail once Broadwell-E is released and so likely won't even be worth £500 second hand?

My 5930K does 4.6Ghz rock solid. It is crazy fast, if the Broadwell 14nm chips can clock higher or maybe an 8 core in the mid tier i.e 5930K replacement, I will def upgrade. Skylake -E is a long ways off, and these other 4 core mainstream chips don't interest me at all.

The -E range is the only remotely interesting thing in CPU atm. Hopefully if AMD deliver with Zen we'll see some real competition again, with Intel giving more than 4 cores for it's mainstream line and beyond 8 on the extreme.

This is what I'm hoping for 'Broadwell to be 6/8/8'. Something decent to play with that doesn't cost the earth until Skylake -E arrives.

Yeah I would say about £500, depending on how well the mid tier £500 new chip performs. Hopefully get about £300 - £350 for my 5930K when it's time to switch to Broadwell.
