There was an upgrade path for my Z97 board when I got it too but the move from Haswell to Broadwell was a non starter. No improvement what so ever.

He said the latter meaning the 1151 chips.

So he did. I was lot in waffle. Has no relation for no want for a stronger IMC. It's an enthusiast chip.

Haswell is outdated? Intel's competition has nothing that even approaches haswell

It's 14nm, putting it on par with skylake. This is important, since skylake offers superior single core performance, but with broadwell e this will bridge the gap.

I have said before lets hope they make better quality chips this time around. They should have learned a few lessons from Haswell-E.

Thinking I might even go to a lower down tier with the next lot. I would like an 8 core but if it's $1000 it's gonna be to pricey, so a cheaper 6 core on 14nm might more appealing, then see what's happening with AMD's Zen later in the year.

Some of the Broadwell -E Xeon's might be worth a look as well..
