Always wanted Intel share prices to fall a bit, good time to invest

It's not like they didn't know their own processors were processing code insecurely. It had to have been done on purpose and it would have been to keep a performance edge over rivals. They did a VW basically (cheated and kept it quiet). Hackers would have definitely known about it as well.

Looks like some AMD and ARM chips are affected after all.
Hang on that article you posted has a quote from AMD saying their chips are not liable to this issue?
Good question! Will Microsoft actively put two different versions out (ie AMD and Intel). As far as i understand it, any "fix" will affect both vendors in terms of performance, it just that AMD claim they don't need the fix.
I am not sure how they would get round it either as Windows 10 forces updates on you (pretty much).

Check out https://meltdownattack.com or https://spectreattack.com
The Spectre vulnerability has been confirmed on AMD chips but the Meltdown vulnerability hasn't.
How can we tell if the CPU is slowing down? Is there any software to detect if CPU are slowing down?
indeed.
Personally, i think AMD Windows users are getting shafted whatever happens, even if they don't need the fix.
Emergency Windows Update has just gone up :$

Intel has responded:

They think the issue is not unique to them, not sure what this means yet.
Recent reports that these exploits are caused by a “bug” or a “flaw” and are unique to Intel products are incorrect. Based on the analysis to date, many types of computing devices — with many different vendors’ processors and operating systems — are susceptible to these exploits.
Intel is committed to product and customer security and is working closely with many other technology companies, including XXX, XXX Holdings and several operating system vendors, to develop an industry-wide approach to resolve this issue promptly and constructively. Intel has begun providing software and firmware updates to mitigate these exploits. Contrary to some reports, any performance impacts are workload-dependent, and, for the average computer user, should not be significant and will be mitigated over time.
