Intel D975XBX (badaxe)

I have started ordering components for my new system. I've ordered a D975XBX but have a question regarding the connectors.

If you look in the very bottom right of the pic you'll see the processor power connector. I haven't seen a connector of that shape before, do ATX 2.2 PSU's have this?

Most modern PSU's have that 8-pin connector, it's been used on AMD boards for a while now I think. Some ASUS LGA775 boards have that connector with a cap over 4 of the pins so you may find that you can actually just plug in the old style 4-pin connector and it will still work. But that's purely speculation, and you should check further.
 
Ooooooo ok.

I've been using shuttles for over a year now, didn't realise the four pin connector has changed.
 
hmm i was looking to get that mobo, but i keep reading reports of the ram mosfets blowing up :( it seems that if you set the ram to 2.2v or above you run the risk of them blowing up....sometimes taking your ram with them :eek:

Thats with people pumping loads of juice through the ram.

This mobo is meant to be a rigid stable mobo that handles high FSB with solid performance.

I will need a new PSU though by looking at the new conroe mobo's They all seem to have the 8 pin 12 v connector aprt from the asus and my antec neo has only 4 pin on the 12v connector so it looks like i will need a new psu :(

This transistion is getting messy lol!
 
This board has now arrived.

Stuff it comes with:-

Rounded IDE Cables
SATA cables
USB backplate
A 3.5" drive bay module that has audio, mic, 2 x usb and 1 x firewire on it. Sort of a waste really as most cases have these ports anyway - they should give out card readers or something!

This also comes with an adapter that converts an old style 4 pin CPU power connector to the 8 pin one! Will post a pic tonight.

Read that this is not advisbale to use if overclocking.
Its stated on intels site.
 
I will attempt to overclock but only using the software that intel supplies. I've seen the conversation between yourself and stelly in the mobo forum, does the writing on the white sticker on the mobo denote the version number? Mine ends in 304.

EDIT - Question answered in CPU forum.

Three for crossfire physix. Instead of an Agila Physics card you add three of the same ati cards, ati claim thats theirs already has this Physics engine.
