Intel D975XBX

@ Gibbo

Any idea what the 965 line is like (Intel and other brands)? How good are they?

Not as good!
Not as quick!
Not as overclockable!
Don't support Crossfire!
But they work!

Ok then, will all the 975X motherboards be pretty expensive like the DFI Infinity and the Asus WiFi one?
.

They will get cheaper, but doubt they will ever get under £100, maybe £120ish if your lucky.

All of the top performance, high-end motherboards cost over well £100, even on Socket 939 and AM2. You'll have to wait until Conroe is phased out to get a top mobo for £100, and Conroe isn't even out yet. And Intel motherboards have always been more expensive than their AMD counterpart, so don't get your hopes high. :)

I've preordered an x6800 from OcUK for this board.

I'm also going to order this from OcUK:-

Coolermaster Mystique 631 Silver (No PSU) (CA-098-CM)
Seasonic S12 600W Silent ATX2.2 Power Supply (CA-002-SS)

What memory should I get for this? I'm going to be overclocking but only using the intel control centre or setting cpu multiplier so it won't be anything extreme.

Does this board support conroe? I'm getting confused moving from amd to intel. Can't find anywhere that says it does, apart from a mod on xs?

About the 8pin, i heared can just use a normal 4pin connection. Would this hamper perfomance or anything?

Cheers :)

PSUs like the Enermax Liberty and FSP supplies have the 8pin 12v connector. It is highly recommended (certainly for overclocking) to have one natively rather than use an adapter or only a 4pin 12v supply.

Conroe boards usually have 8 phase power for improved stability\overclocking, hence the extra 12v pins.

The bad axe comes with an adaptor but this is only useful when running at stock.

If you are using a extreme edition cpu or overclocking the the 8 pin should be used to avoid damage to the mobo.

Heh, I though it was the first one there for a second, still £165 is cheaper that other places.

Just one think about this board though, the Intel site only shows support for the Extreme Edition for Conroes, does this mean the standard Core 2 DUO E6X00 series aren't officially supported on this mobo?

no they work fine,

mines running a treat with my E6600:D
