I guess it's bad for 'enthusiasts' like 'us' but it's easy to lose sight that PC's in the mass market is far less of a big deal.
How many average people would upgrade a cpu... Hardly any.


I know people with PC's /Laoptops still running DDR3... It's going to be a new socket when most people replace their PC's anyway.

Heck.. Even I don't really care as I only upgrade probably every 7-10 years..

Wow well Nova Lake compute tile will be manufactured on TSMC 2nm in 2026 but not Intel 18A which it was expected to be used in 2026, all Nova Lake test chips were used Intel 18A.

I see same patterns with Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake test chips used Intel 20A but Intel switched both CPUs to TSMC for mass production instead.

I have doubts about Intel 18A ready for volume production at end of Q4 2025, Intel announced 18A entered risk production on 2 April 2025. 18A yield still at less than 20-30%? Will Panther Lake switch to TSMC? I would not be surprise if Intel will announce Intel 18A production cancelled at end of Q4 2025 just like they did with Intel 20A production cancelled in 2024.

It will a massive shame if we will never see desktop CPUs used Intel 14A and 18A with RibbonFET and PowerVIA technologies in future beyond Nova Lake.

Intel are constantly talking them selves and everything they do up as they are failing time and time again.

Intel talking themselves up is like sports personalities trashtalking opponents and should be taken about as seriously.

they may have made 800 million less than expected but a company that made 56 billion didnt just drop all that and go into a massive loss

Yes thats about right, i mean 800mil is not nothing... but when you profit after running costs it 56bil... i think laying off 22,000 people world wide is a bit a kick in the nuts

It matters a lot to me. It gives me confidence to spend a decent amount on a board with good connectivity and all the features I want when I know zen 6 will plonk straight in. Intel socket expiry is a big reason for my buying decisions

Are you meaning that Zen 6 will use Socket 5.?
I thought, if that is what you mean, it is still a rumour that AMD have not confirmed at this point.?

AMD did confirme that AM5 will be supported till 2026... but that coud b the not batch of IGP cpus like the 80000 chips

Yeah, I understood that to mean the socket is supported, like your said, but, as yet, no guarantee that Zen 6 will be used on socket 5.

I wondered if something had changed officially since then.
