Intel Haswell Refresh Processors Codenamed Devil’s Canyon – Launching in Mid 2014 With Unlocked Desi

They keep referring to the delay being just 'rumors' that even for a paper launch September is really far away.. That Devil's Canyon is coming 'very soon' lol. Gives some hope that these guys know something is coming in June.

Oh thanks for that boom. I sure hope it makes it? Cheers for that mate :)

Do we know if 4790k will support TV-d?

If not, narrows my choice to 4930k or wait for x99. Not sure will gain much waiting for x99 though if I get something like asus workstation x79 board.

I guess they quite intentionally cut some of the features for socket 1150/1155 a while ago so they can motivate people that need them to either buy Xeon processors or go for socket 2011. Do not expect any difference in the core compared to Haswell.

Ah, but that feture is not cut from 1150/1155 cpu's.

For example, a 3770 has vt-d, but a 3770K does not.

From some searching, it seems like the 4790k's might actually have vt-d support...

If only I weren't such an impatient person! Now that I more or less decided on a course going forward, I want to change things now!

I'm seriously debating if it's even worth upgrading to a z97 and 4970K, could always sell what i have now but only if it's worth the time.
I'm still hopeful that the 4970k will work on z87..i guess we'll see in june.

2 rumours as you may or may not know.

1) DC will not work in Z87

2) June 2nd is Paper launch and will not be retail till Sep.

Hope both are BS.

Hope both are untrue as well. Got some cash set aside for a 4790k, if it doesn't work on Z87 ill just get another gtx 780.

Not a bad clocker per se, 4.5 on 1.275v, (1.2800 at load) its a very hot runner, late 70's temp wise in games. Stress tests are a definite no go as on lower vcore it hit the mid 90's in 3 seconds using p95 small fft test.

Ohh mines is pretty cool even at near stable 4.2GHZ in Prime etc.

Using Noctua NH-U14S, what you using to cool it?

Alpenfohn k2 with dual 2350 rpm corsair sp PWM fans, liquid ultra paste on the ihs. Putting those fans on full speed drops temps in game into the high 60's, but they are a bit loud. Though quieter than the 1900rpm akasa piranhas they replaced.

Sound like a worse than normal contact with Die and IHS (more than avg rubber/silicon).

I said before I think you have a decent CPU and delidding would help both clocks and temps.

Can you do that Asus dirty boot to 5GHZ trick (assume you know if not I will find URL)?

Probably the case, not really worth delidding such an average chip. If it was a good low voltage example that ran hot, yep definitely worth it. Not heard of this 5ghz boot test.
