Intel Haswell Refresh Processors Codenamed Devil’s Canyon – Launching in Mid 2014 With Unlocked Desi

Same story as Haswell. Lots of exaggerated rumours and promises in advance of the release, and then the reality is much less impressive - and only if you're one of the lucky ones with a golden chip.

The Paste is the same old junk!!! The guys delidded some. JUNK!!!

Binning to start again I think as Golden chip will be very rare.

The new paste --> The thermal interface material (TIM) that lies in between the die and the heat spreader has been updated to a next-generation polymer TIM (NGPTIM).

Well at least its got a fancy name if nothing else, they would have been better just saying its a 4770K V2.

But keeping the speed at 3.50Ghz-3.90Ghz at least your guaranteed 4.4-4.5GHz with slightly better temps.

Im assuming you have the locked non k 3770 Paul, or is that a typo? Reason i ask is, if you own a 3770k the move to this wouldnt really be worth it, if your current chip is a non k you could always grab a secondhand 3770k and use it with your current board and ram if you want to do a spot of overclocking.

yes i think it is the K version

i guess its worth giving it an overclock, i didnt really push it when i got it but i suppose i should see what it can do

Still a guaranteed 4.4Ghz effectively though!

I have been thinking about this and, we'll I'd say more than that logically. :D

Even some of the worst 4770k/4670k stretched to 4.2ghz I think we can agree on that. So roughly guessing , that's a slight 300/400 MHz increase on the Worst case scenarios.
Add that sort of extra to a 4.4ghz 4970k and your looking 4.7ghz territory.

I think you will see good chips achieve 5ghz , even though it's the same old story as haswell. :D

The biggest improvement will be the guaranteed 4.4ghz clock on low volts anyway, it's only the extreme overclockers who use ridiculously high volts who are likely to be disappointed. Haswell-E will be available for them soon anyway.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the motherboard restricts the CPU to 5.2Ghz - which I suppose it fine for the majority of people but shows the ceiling limit of the hardware.
