*** Intel Kaby Lake is HERE! ***

I wonder how long it will be before we get a bump in performance like I did when I went from a Phenom X4 980 to my I74790k [if ever]

I don't think I'll ever experience again an uplift in PC performance like the one I had when going from my old 3Ghz Phenom II dual core to my current 4.2Ghz+ 4690K

In raw computational CPU terms it was over a 400% increase.

..and it makes me

6700K was £320 when launched (based on the $ rate at the time = $500)

7700K is £350 (based on current $ rate = $430)

That, to me, doesn't support your statement one bit.

I just don't understand all of this negativity about pricing...

Possibly because I the consumer regardless or not of whether it's true "feel" like I'm getting ripped off now, People wages are not increasing at the same speed as the price of most things and back 5-10 years ago I didn't worry about spending 300-350 quid for a high-ish end card now you're looking at 350 at minimum more like 400 for what I would class as a medium level card (eg one that will last 2-3 years) add to that keyboards for 200 processors for 300 quid plus and motherboards for 200 and then the constant chip changes socket changes, it starts the feel like Man Uniteds kit replacement policy.
When a single motherboard, single graphics card, single processor are all individually more expensive than a latest gen console you have to start wondering about things (I personally hate consoles myself)

yes it's all relevant and the prices are probably the same as they were but I never used to feel like I was getting ripped off, now I do. (not by yourselves but by the industry as a whole)

The fact you seem puzzled by the price negativity makes me kinda of worried to be fair.

It is not OcUK or the industry, it is the UK economy:

Intel Core i7-7700K 4.2GHz (Kaby Lake) Socket LGA1151 Processor - Retail @ £338.99 inc VAT https://www.overclockers.co.uk/inte...ocket-lga1151-processor-retail-cp-62f-in.html

BX80677I77700K, Quad Core with Hyperthreading Technology, 4.20GHz clock speed, 14nm Process, 8MB L3 Cache, Dual Channel DDR4 Controller, Integrated Iris DX12 Graphics, 3 Year Warranty

Only £338.99 inc VAT.

ORDER NOW

That is today's price, based on our stock which we own at 1.25 rate, today the rate is 1.20. :(

If we had purchased stock at pre-brexit pound strength, circa 1.45 the price to end-users today would be £289.99 inc. vat which is under £300 and people would feel far better.

Intel, OcUK is not to blame for this, it is the UK economy.

Prices have sky rocketed, NVIDIA 10 series has being out for months and is now more expensive now than it was at launch nearly six months ago when stock was in huge shortage so people were paying more to be one of the first. Monitor prices have exploded due to weak pound and memory and SSD pricing has just become down right crazy because of them not only going up in price but also due to the weak pound.

I went to the USA a few days ago, every thing I was buying was crazy, because $500 was literally £500, that is how weak our pound now is due to Brexit vote.

The said story is it seems to be a case of the pound will become even weaker before it grows stronger. :(

Let us hope once things settle, the UK either sorts itself out or we even end up cutting some deal with the EU that the pound recovers which will see prices come back down. At least on the plus side we can hope the pound should not become much weaker.

But in short we need a 1.30 rate for UK Sterling prices to match around USD prices 1:1 due to our 20% VAT etc. Right now everything feels very expensive for computer and car stuff, because they all get purchased in USD. I wanted a super charger for my car, should have it got it last year when the rate was 1.55 because now at 1.20, well:

$6000 / 1.55 = £3870
$6000 / 1.20 = £5000

So over £1000 more expensive just because of currency, then also when it lands in the UK customs and excise charge VAT based on the new £5000 total so:
£3870 x1.30 (20% VAT & 10% duty on car parts) = £5031
£5000 x1.30 = £6500

So there you have it, just because of currency fluctuation, which Brexit is mainly to blame for, though is not the full blame, but still costing me near as dammit £1500 more for the same part.

Makes me said to think around ten years ago, £1 got you $2, those days are long gone! :(

Brexit to blame, UK economy to blame, Tory to blame!

What a load of rubbish. Stop blaming Brexit, Economy or the Tory. Blame Intel & OCUK for overpriced.

Do the maths on the exchange rate which has been affected by Brexit. That is a fact rather than your opinion :)

Since the Tories got in it's all gone to ****. They gave us brexit and the vat hike. Not to mention unnecessary austerity.

Didn't the tories get in just after the financial meltdown? They can be hardly blamed for that and the related actions they had to take (VAT, auterity) and trying to put pieces back together again. They always seem to have to clear up after Labour's mess.

One thing that I still remember pre-brexit is driving many miles round the country and only seeing signs supporting Brexit. I think people were confident in a remain vote. True, the Tories can be blamed but promising us a vote but I think Labour would have had to do it too at some point.
