Intel Nova Lake (16th gen) on next gen platform/socket (LGA-XXXX)

Nova Lake is set to release in 2026, which means it'll probably be delayed to late 2026 or early 2027, given Intel's recent track record.

By then, we'll have Zen6 released, so it's in no way clear who'll have the best IPC at this time IMO.
You are confusing nova lake and panther lake..

This could even end up on TSMC 2nm if Chipzilla can't get yields up sufficiently on 18A

"Intel Shakes Up its Roadmap: No Arrow Lake-S Refresh, Nova Lake Takes Center Stage

A Break from Tradition

In a surprising move, rumors suggest that Intel may be abandoning its typical “tick-tock” release cycle. Instead of the expected Arrow Lake-S refresh, the company is seemingly set to leapfrog directly to its next-generation Nova Lake CPUs. This decision marks a strategic shift, potentially driven by a desire to deliver more significant performance improvements and focus resources on a truly groundbreaking architecture.

Implications for the Market

This change in Intel’s roadmap could have several implications for the PC market:

  • Shorter LGA1851 Socket Lifespan: Arrow Lake might be the only CPU generation to use this socket, which could impact upgrade plans for users who invested in the new platform.
  • Longer Gap between Generations: Skipping the refresh could mean a longer wait for a new major CPU release, potentially giving AMD an advantage in the meantime.
  • Focus on Innovation: The move towards Nova Lake signals Intel’s intent to focus on delivering major architectural improvements rather than incremental updates."

News is starting to flow for Nova Lake, which will be the next full generation of CPU from Intel following the disappointing Arrow Lake.

Nova Lake is set to be on a brand new platform/socket, meaning LGA-1851 for Arrow Lake will be a one generation only platform. This is due to Meteor Lake being cancelled.

There's a rumour that we'll get an "Arrow Lake Refresh" on LGA-1851 - though this is likely to be a 13900k-14900k or 4700k-4790k 'refresh' with just increased clocks/power consumption, not an actual new generation or new architecture, which is very disappointing.

Very much makes me wonder if they knew that Arrow Lake was rubbish, hence they dropped the refresh.

Can't refresh what's broken unfortunately and arrow lake is clearly stil broken

Going to be rough year or two for Intel, while they try and get Nova Lake working and launched.

Sales must be terrible for the high end desktop segment compared to just a year ago.

Don't know. As intel were quick to point out, gamers are not their most important market.

I have abandoned an update now.

I am a long-term intel customer and being forced to look at the competition did little other than make me realise I have been upgrading for the heck of it, and reality is I don't need to upgrade again for at least another year. I can hang on to the 16th gen.

Now that's what I call brand dedication, 2016? - it might be Nvintel, Xintel or AnybodyIntel by then :)

Perhaps Intel are trying to rush Nova Lake? Relying on the dead in the water arrow lake until 2026 must be unacceptable to Intel.

Bugs/issues aside the main thing wrong with Arrow Lake really is the price - the 285K should be a £350 CPU max - they've basically done an nVidia and tried to rebadge a mid-range part as a high end part and price it accordingly...

but people are paying 599. My friends son who is autistic will only buy intel because there in his words "more gaming focused".
and in his new system he as a 285k

I'm wondering if there will be a bit of once bitten twice shy in the future - I know several people who are addicted to buying high end, usually Intel, and just had to move to, or experiment with, 285K systems because they were newer and "shinier" in their eyes bits of kit, and having a hard time reconciling with actually these are overpriced and not very exciting performing setups, but I think come next release if it was similar there might be some disillusionment setting in.

EDIT: I'm in a bit of an odd place at the moment, for some reason I'm getting the itch to do a new build despite not long ago putting this system together, but at the same time perfectly happy with the performance of this setup (14700K w/ 4080 Super) and not tempted by anything out currently.

for a lot intel is already done, but there will always be the prople that just go to them no matter what

i was mid upgrade to AM5 when i randomly grabbed a 13900kf and wanted to see what performance was like id say ive been using my system 3 months now.... but i cant help looking over at the AM5 motherboard i have.

Depending a bit on the price when you got the 13900KF - the thing for me is these CPUs 13900/14700 have been available vastly cheaper than the CPUs they are not far behind and have a better balance of performance than pretty much anything out - the only areas they trail the latest and greatest a bit is if you are all out gaming at 1080p with a 4090 or specific heavyweight productivity tasks where like the 7950/9950X dominate which are mostly edge cases anyhow (like SHA3 hashing).

if all i did was game id be very happy with your 14700K / 4080 Super as i am with my 13900k / 4080 super, but i do understand the want to buy somthing when its really just not needed.
the games i pay top out at about 120-150fps on my 1440p 165hz screen, if i change CPU i would see little to no differance if i change GPU i would see little to no differance
but for some reason i cant help but want to go shopping

i wont pay £2000 for a 4090/5090 my options are 7900xtx or 5080 so about 0-10% uplift... i just cant do it.

We have seen what happens when intel rush... this is a disaster waiting to happen. It gets worse because if they do swap platform they will just leave customers that invested in their latest and "greatest" platform dead up the river again. Will be interesting to watch Intel fumble the bag for what is it now 3 generations in a row? Comical.
