am i right in thinking that you can update the firmware on intel drives without it wiping them?
Tried to work this out but unsure if this firmware applies to my SSD:
Intel SSDSA2M080G2GC ATA Device
If anyone could help me out I would be most grateful.

cheers - I think its an x25m as well but couldn't remember!!It's not a firmware, it's a maintenance tool which now includes a firmware updater system
That said it will work with yours, I'm pretty sure that the above product code is an X25-M 80GB
Intel toolbox is a great little tool. I've now managed to setup scheduled weekly automatic trim.
You're not on Windows 7 then? It's a useful function for those still running XP.
Yeah windows 7 64bit why? It says its recommended to do it once a week, or did in the last version of it i used.
Yeah, it will suggest backing up (in the event of failure i guess) and then will ask you to restart the PC. That is all.
It's there to benefit XP users, who otherwise wouldn't have TRIM functionality. No harm in running it on Win 7 but don't expect it to actually have any impact. Your drive will be Trimmed already.
