intel x25-v slow shutdown

ok thanks AWPC
so the sata controller my p5q pro uses is a Marvell 88SE611, so i go to asus and get this from there i take it yes ?

I do think that the board is a P45 chipset. have you tried using the Intel ports rather the Marvell controller.

OK so once windows 7 has finished its installation process what are you doing between then and considering the pc useable? Walk me through the steps you are taking.

Why not run something like HDTune and see what the performance is like. Then compare it to a benchmark of the same drive online.

It maybe a windows bug software/hardware glitch (not a HD glitch something else - MB, GFX, Memory - Who knows)

ok i install win 7, i have no gfx, sound drivers, progs, games etc etc installed
i reboot after first initial boot, from shut down to desktop im looking at at 43 second loop. it seems to han on the shutting down page for say 15- 20 seconds
the read an write speeds seem ok and ive now had at least 12 programs in the startup that are open and waiting for me on the desktop when it gets there
therfore i should be right in thinking yes its usable as a system but the ssd isnt as a performing part.

is that what you mean ?

i boot up the asus splash screen is on screen for 6-10 seconds and

I'm intrigued to know what makes the SSD the likely cause of slowdown....

Did you image the existing HDD and convert it onto an SSD?
(and thus the SSD is the only change on the system and likely the cause)

You might want to turn off the Asus Splash logo, enable quick boot in the bios (or whatever Asus have badged it). Then take a look at the BIOS output as it boots. You may find it is timing out looking for some hardware you no longer have or sensing for devices you never use etc.

when im restarting the "shutting down " screen is there for about the same

Again this isn't necessarily a fault of the storage, it could simply be a software problem, e.g. a task hanging up on shutdown. I would try taking a look in the system event viewer to see if there is any errors being reported for the system at the point you are shutting down.

Good luck finding the problem :)

so your concerned about the performance with no drivers installed?

And you have 12 programs running on the desktop straight after booting why? Especially as you haven't installed drivers yet.

sorry ive not wrote that right
i rebooted after install of o/s with no drivers etc
then ive installed drivers etc etc and have progs in startup
either way its still the same slow boot and shutdown

What are you timing your boot with ?
When people say they have 20 second boot time, that does not take into account the POST time. ie the time that your asus splash screen is displaying and for the recored 6 -10 seconds is about right.
The app most are using to measure boot time is with http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Windows-Boot-timer.shtml

On a clean install of windows 7 U with no drivers for sound and storage drivers etc I get about 12 secs with the above app.
With all my drivers and apps loaded this goes up to 18 .

Try the above app and see what you get

25.365 seconds
thing is, when i fist got the drive like 2 weeks ago, the shut down was ok, i could see how fast it was as i would shut down and before i left the room the computer would be off. now its just not like that

just done again 12.324 seconds

Mine is almost instant off as well.
So hanging for 10 secs or so deffo isn't right. not great loss either , but at least it shuts down.
If you want to track it down. then start with a clean install, ie no drivers loaded and just load device driver at a time, measure your boot and shut down time until you find the culprit.
Do you have any mapped network drives either on yours or another machine ?

Can you take a screen shot of your eventvwr for system, and sort it by errors, it may gives some clues...

By the way sent you a reply back
