Intels E6500K with unclocked mutiplier

More info

"We guess “Limited Edition” means it’s available in China only, which has been officially confirmed by Intel. Daniel Snyder, Intel’s spokesman, told Xbitlabs that “This is a PRC-only pilot for now. At the end of the pilot, Intel will determine what, if any other similar product should be offered in other geographies."

& this is why god invented ebay & gobal shipping.
But i can foresee scams & fakes

There are loads of people out there with a 775 mobo who have not got the cash for a i7 system.
And IF OCUK gets\sells at the right price I can see this CPU flying out the door.

Its done 4.5GHZ on air so it would be a good upgrade for my E6300@ 3GHZ

Till I save enough for a i5\i7 system.

Yeah it's meant to go up against the Athlon II X2 550 BE. This should be interesting!

Very interesting and welcome move by Intel, and could be a cheap upgrade for a few people who are currently on the S775 platform now, or for a HTPC. The E6500K is undoubtedly great value for money. Not crippling virtualization is also another big advantage with this chip, that was one of the biggest issues I had with Intel on the budget Core2 range.

But when buying a new rig, the X2 550 BE is still much better value, as most people get a free increase of 6.2Ghz right off the bat by unlocking the 2 extra cores with a simple switch in the BIOS - rising to 7.4Ghz or more by overclocking. A quad-core 3.1Ghz chip for £79 is simply unbeatable. And even in the small number of cases where that trick doesn't work, it will still hit 3.8Ghz+ and most likely still beat an overclocked E6500K due to having a LOT more cache...

But still a very interesting move by Intel, when was the last time they released a multiplier-unlocked chip without charging an obscene price premium for the "extreme editions"? It was the Original Pentium 1 non-MMX wasn't it?

And can we all please forget about super pi ? Its by far the most un-representative benchmark ever made. If your one of the handful of mathematicians that really cares about super pi performance, you already know about it and are probably doing more interesting things with your time than reading forums.

heh :D........:(

Looks interesting though, definitely keeping an eye out for this on OCuk in the future :)

they are not being sold in europe unless some dodgy distie grey imports some.

Nothing dodgy about grey imports I got my GTX for under half price by getting from china.
And there is a well know sounds shop that most of there stuff is Grey imports.

I don't think that's entirely reasonable. SuperPi is SuperPi. If a machine is fast in SuperPi it will be fast in other CPU benchmarks too. And SuperPi doesn't really change while lots of others do. My old P4 machines were doing 50 seconds plus SuperPi times. It's interesting to compare the basic underlying horsepower of CPUs and SuperPi is a good a way of doing that as any.

Or you buy one directly from the far east? And that's not hard at all, especially given that Chinese people are unusually entrepreneurial. I would expect to see these, direct from Hong Kong, on ebay very, very, soon.

i wanted the E6300 for upgrade then spotted this thread for the E6500K so went hunting...

Cant find em for sale anywhere DAMNIT!!!!

Thats not how it works tho, 2 3 or 4 cores its still only 3.1ghz

It also dosent have a lot more cache, its 2mb shared between the cores the same as the 6500k
