Interlagos - Brazilian Grand Prix 2009 - Race 16/17

I think I'd enjoy it going to the wire if it wasn't Button going for the title. As it stands, I want him to win it this weekend. Preferably with a race win, but I'll settle for a podium.

I'd like to see either Button or Barichello take it in the end, I like all three but I think Vettel will have many more chances at this than the others. Even if not with Red Bull, I can see him eventually making a move to someone who is a title challenging team if things go that way. He'll mature and improve from where he is now.

Button i'm not so sure about, he's still fairly young but I can't see a top end team taking him on and unless Brawn dominate again next year, I don't think he'll end up in this position again. I can see him ending up much more like DC, someone who will maybe rack up a few 2nd, 3rd, 4th place finishes in the championship but ultimately never achieve the top prize unless he does so this year.

I would like to see Rubens 1st with Button and Vettel DNF because I would dearly love to see Rubens win the WDC - he deserves it after all those years having to put up with Schumacher.

blah blah blah

(what a crock of **** imo lol, so what if anyone had to deal with Schumi for several years - Button had to deal with an obviously biased team manager in Briatore for two years , doesnt mean he deserves the title this year or any year. Barrichello still got paid VERY well during the Ferrari years)

It would be very interesting to see if Barrichello can actually manage to get two consecutive podiums without Button beating him or being very close behind him, he has only managed it once (in Valencia) in the whole of the year - to see him do it twice in two races would be pretty amazing

I guess that depends on the Brawn car over the next few years - if Mercedes do invest in the team that would be a huge bonus, not forgetting the design genius that is Brawn himself ( not to mention Ferrari, RBR and McLaren all likely to have much better cars from Abu Dhabi next year compared to Aus this year)

Very rarely have there been Championships with so many front running teams / drivers, not so long ago you would be lucky to have one person from two different teams competing - for the next couple of years it could easily be 7 or 8 competitors jostling through out the year depending on track and conditions to who could win.

As far as the constructors go, this is the first season since '79 that the constructors title won't be won by one of the old "Big Four" - Ferrari, McLaren, Williams, Renault/Benetton. Whatever happens now, only Brawn (formerly Honda, formerly BAR) or Red Bull (formerly Jaguar, formerly Stewart) can win it. That, for me, is the biggest shock of the year. We always knew that the drivers fighting for this title (Button, Barrichello, Vettel) had race-winning talent given the machinery. But I don't think anyone would have predicted them actually getting that machinery at the end of last year!

I thought Jorg Zander designed the Brawn and Ross was Team Principal/owner. didnt know he also designed the car.

spot on

Also you would have had very good odds on Ferrari and McLaren having such dismal starts to the year with uncompetitive cars

On a side note - is Williams (and to a lesser extent Benetton / Renault) a big anything? Both teams where huge - but really havent been "themselves" for 10 years imo

Actually I think you might be a little harsh on RBR, with Newey getting to grips with the team (and the massive rule changes last year) its arguable that they wouldnt have been competetive anyway this year (its not definite by any means, but surely an odds -on bet that they would be)

Well it was Brawn himself who saw the hole in the rules 18 months ago to allow the double diffuser - which imo was "the find" of the season

Surely its the individual elements on the car that make the difference (which Brawn has a huge hand in) rather than the actual shell of the car itself? Of course all elements have to be designed in collaboration, but I think its fair to say Brawn is a astounding engineer in his own right as Ferrari will attest to (before he left the team at any rate)

This is my first post on these forums but i've been reading it for about the past year, so Hi all :)

As for the WDC I do think Button deserves it, he put in some brilliant drives earlier in the year and lately he has been quick during the race but quali has let him down badly. I think he needs to be more agressive though and from his latest comments of being a bit reserved from now on I dont think thats gonna happen until he has that crown in his hands.

Even though I do like Rubens he sits in the same catagory as DC for me, they are good drivers but just dont have any special spark about them. They plod along from season to season holding onto places that potential new talent could come and use and shine from which is wrong to me (now DC has moved over look at Vettel shining in his place). I do agree that Rubens is in the form of his life, but the form of his life still isn't good enough, he still misses that spark. Also I dont agree with anyones comments that say he 'deserves' the title just because he has been in racing for so long without achieving it. The person who achieves their dream of WDC has done it through having that little extra that no one that year has had, and Rubens has mostly been overshaddowed by someone else or not taken the opportunities handed to him and so doesn't cut it for me.

Vettel will be a WDC one day without a doubt, but he still lacks a few things. He is fast as hell, his raw pace is brilliant, but i havn't seen him do a single convincing overtake this year which is something he really needs to work on. Until he gets that down i think he will struggle, but i have every faith that he will, it's just a matter of time and experiance and it'll come to him. But this year isn't his year, he still has much to learn and prove before he can make WDC, maybe next year he will have it, but he will be fighting Lewis, Fernando, Nico & Filipe for it.

According to 1,218 visitors to the Brawn GP web-site, the current top five drivers are:
  • Alonso (24%)
  • Button (17.4%)
  • Hamilton (16.7%)
  • Raikonnen (15%)
  • Vettel (7.6%)
Rubens comes in at less than 5% . . . according to visitors to the Brawn GP web-site :(

Kovalainen comes in at 0.16% :D

Button eyes safety-first approach
Britain's Jenson Button says he will be happy to adopt a cautious approach at the Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday, with the world title within grasp.

It's the right attitude, but here is a fine line between being cautious and just being dog slow and paranoid. This is why I want him to win it here. So the last race he can just drive normally and hopefully return to the top.
