Interlagos - Brazilian Grand Prix 2009 - Race 16/17

World Championship aside you are correct. Without the puncture Jensen would not have caught up (however he still would have won the world Championship).

I think its also important to take note that whilst Jensen this season at times has been poor in Quallifying, he generally made places up in the race despite some abysmal starts off the grid as well (where he normally loses a place or two). Barichello however always seemed to be great in Qualifying but goes backwards in the race by about 2/3/4 positions...

Yep. And that was brought on by Button's lack of speed during qualifying. Button only got ahead of Barrichello because of outside interference (ie. puncture).

it wasnt just lack of speed, he was on full wets when he should have been on inters. Button would no doubt been right up there with barrichello if he/the team hadnt made that booboo.

qualifying doesnt get you any points - its the speed in the race which counts

and even with a lighter car Rubens was a lot slower than JB - as proven by the result (even before the puncture)

Not necessarily true - because fast full wet times where still being set after Jenson had his last chance (I think it was a FI that came through behind on full wets to get into the top 10 - Sutil?

Dont get me wrong, I think a couple of laps before it was worth the gamble to go inters anyway - but hindsight is always perfect - either way we wouldnt have got the drive we did if JB had got into the top ten

Its not just the tyres though it's the downforce. JB had clearly gone for more straightline speed than the others which hampered his qfy on the full wet but gave him the ability to overtake in the race.

He knew that which is why he was very confident he was going to be going through the field.

After Q1 (with that hour + break inbetween) Brawn said they hadnt compromised the setup though on either car (it was hinted at rather than stated matter of fact, but he certainly said something similar)

edit - maybe that had something to do with the performance on Sunday , but from what Ross said it shouldnt have been "all or nothing" on Sat if you see what I mean

Qualifing sets you up for the race, hence is VERY important. A complete driver, will have fantastic qualifying pace.

If you look at the 2nd half of the season, you will notice that Barrichello has generally been outscoring Button. In some cases Button has scored more points, however, this is more due to external problems (eg. Barrichello getting a puncture or Barrichello being held up in the pits, etc) and not on merit. The whole problem is that Button has to come through the traffic, as a result of his poor qualifying pace.

I would agree though, that in races, Button has generally been faster, however, due to his poor qualifying ability, this has prevented him from capitalising on his superior race speed.

So far this season pole position has been split like this:

4 - Jenson Button
4 - Seb Vettel
3 - Lewis Hamilton
1 - Jarno Trulli
1 - Giancarlo Fisichella
1 - Rubens Barrichello
1 - Fernando Alonso
1 - Mark Webber

So it's not as if any one driver has dominated qually this year.

keep to one arguement will you

My original comment was about Rubens being dog slow IN THE RACE, which in comparison to Button he was - and I cant see there being much discussion any other way

Or put it another way - put JB's performance from pole position in the race and Im pretty darn sure that car would have got a MUCH better position than 4th at the flag (excluding the puncture)

This is the story of Rubens season - apart from one or two good races he really hasnt done anywhere as well in the races as he should have, and its the quali thats masked the results (Even Imola its arguable that Rubens was actually holding up JB for the win)

So how qfy going to work next year?

Are they allowing them to run fumes like before and then fill up?

I dont believe thats changed

Frank you say you don't think it's been changed? Therefore the set up is going to be all over the place. Low fuel to get through early qfy and then full tanks if you get into Q3. If you dont get into Q3 your set up for low fuel will be on the one you start the race with?

Doesn't make any sense to me. Just give them 16 laps and low fuel. 3 laps have to be used every 15 minutes or lose them. Leaving plenty for 2 runs in the last 15 and get rid of all that blocking rule rubbish.

Wasn't sure where to post this, hardly seemed worthy of a new thread.

Has any one used http://formulaoneposters.com ? did you get poster or canvas how did you fine the quality? do they put a border around the posters?

I'm 99% sure this is the right over take. But can some just confirm this is Hamilton winning the Championship by overtaking Glock
