I thought I was about the only person in the world that thought Walcott sucked as a winger. He's still a great prospect as a striker, look back at vid's of him at Southampton, the majority of his good stuff is being played in behind, not beating a left wingers/left back. His first 10 mins back were upfront and though he fluffed a chance his movement was sooo much better. Even his hattrick for England Croatia's defence was absymal and he basically got the ball without needing to beat anyone before shooting which is where he comes alive.
SWP isn't a striker though and its mostly useless as a winger. As with any player in the world they'll all have a good game here and there, even a small run, but in the end aren't reliable in the position at all. Downing though is a whole other level worse than the other three, he has no ability to cross, a pretty pathetic shot and no real pace at all. At least the others can in the right situation get through on goal pretty easily, Downing doesn't even have that. how he gets in the squad let alone starting or coming on in games I have no clue.
Apparently, the rumour is that AC Milan want to pay £35m for him. Yes ****ing please. But somehow I don't think so. Unless Flamini's finally seen the error of his greedy ways and has chosen lots of "silent words" as his method of shifting some funds to us. Who knows.
I heard Ancelotti has said something like if they don't buy Ade he's off, most likely laughable crap from Ade's agent, despite no one wanting to up his wages when they were interested last year, after a crap year and having to match much higher wages how on earth the agent thinks he can sell him I don't know. THats my biggest fear, if Barca and Milan wouldn't budge past 40k a week last year thinking they'd get a 30 goal a year striker, theres just no chance they'll match 80k a week after this year is there.
As for the ITV comments, I have no clue, other than I was still up at 6AM, I meant to say there only coverage worse than Setanta's is ITV's, thats what staying up for about 30 hours will do to ya
To the actual game today, dull affair and frankly Slovakia weren't poor, they were utter crap and we made a meal of beating them. But in all honesty it looks like the usual affair, England are so desperate for good wins that they take friendlies seriously while most other teams don't put the slightest bit of effort in. Barry was awful throughout and just isn't remotely close to being a defensive player anymore and isn't who we need for a holding midfielder. Gerrard, surprise surprise, spent about 48 seconds in total on the left wing and isn't the answer for there, Heskey is utter crap, Crouch is crap while the rest of the team is a pretty solid base for a good team. How will we play with massive defensive holes, no left winger, a midget right winger against a team that actually cares about winning, I have no idea. ANother completely wasted game today.
