International football & World Cup Qualifiers 9th Sept **spoilers**

Which is nothing then. Same goes for Germany.

No, I disagree, gives people hope that they could win it again. Adding to that history that they already have.

Making them historically good football teams, that can continue the success.

I don't think I've ever read a stupider statement, and I've read a lot of drunkenmaster.

I don't think its to do with the fact that've done well in the past but more to do with a 'winning mentality' the likes of Italy and Germany seem to have.

No matter how rubbish they seem or play in qualifying they'll always be there or thereabouts come the summer.

England on the other hand will choke as usual.

More or less what i was going to say as well...teams like Brazil for instance...have the mentality of winning even if they are 2-3 goals behind...you can score against them as last night proved...giving up 2 goals but still going on to win 4-2 with a weakened side.

The same for Germany, France, Italy, Holland and Spain up to a certain extent...they seem to win games that count the most whereas England tend to win games that dont matter all that much.

Personally i think anyone betting on England to win the WC next yr is being extremely optimistic...id rather back the likes of Brazil, Germany, Holland, Italy, Spain and even Argentina if they can qualify to lift the WC.

But football is a funny ole game so who knows...England might just win the WC with an Italian at the helm:p.

I wouldn't say the Dutch have any more of a winning mentality than us, given how few trophies they've won over the years. Likewise Spain before Euro 2008 really.

...

Winning things on the pitch, historically gives players hope and fans hope.

Fans can hope to win things again and see their club/country at the top.
Players have the weight of expectation, but it's the mentality of winning things and being historically successful that help them with this.
