I am at a total loss here, have had a engineer out from ntl, the line and the modem are fine, but my connection still randomly drops and reconnects. any ideas whats wrong? it has to be software somewhere surely? :(

no one? the modem lights all go on and then off like its resetting if that helps? what on my system could cause this??? :(

have you tried another router?
My line doesnt seem to like my linksys router but is stable with my netgear
By the way post what router you got so people in the know can hazard a guess

hi there, yup exactly the same as me dmpoole. Gonna try a reinstall over the weekend, it needs it anyways. The pc is directly connected to the modem, which is the silver type. If your mate finds a solution can you let me know? :)

just reinstalled on a newly formatted system, its still doing it!

Looks like my onl option is to change service provider. :(

NTL have been round to my mate today and it was a faulty modem which buggered his router.
He was told that the modem he had was not quick enough for his 10mb connection and his new one is working OK and reaching 10mb speeds.

what modem did he have? I have just ordered ADSL, NTL have been calling me a liar for months and made me do a unnessacery reinstall so they can kiss my nuts now anyway lol.
