Internet Dating.....Who Has Done it?!

I just pick up a few things from their profile and try to make a few jokes out of it. A little bit of flirtation but don't be crude about it.

I just try and reference something they've put about their interests or their job perhaps, try and make it funny if you can or at least something that should provoke an answer or conversation; should the lady in question decide she likes you.

It can be a bit of a kick in the pants as Match tells you when someone's read your message and viewed your profile, then when they don't reply you know they've looked at your pics/profile and thought, "No chance mate, jog on!"

And people pay for this kind of kicking in the teeth? :P Match.com's owners are sadists IMO ;)

Must say this thread is an interesting read - I had a quick browse in incognito mode last night out of curiosity and must say that there are some real horrors around my way! :eek:

Oh PianoBasher - London is the worst!

As well as the ladies with tramp stamps and conveyor belts attached to their wombs, I did notice a lot of the type of "party girl" that I see in the bars uptown - ie: attention seeker that tries to get free drinks all night out of anyone dumb enough to pay for them. Blimey that annoys me.

Give me a plain Jane, girl-next-door type over the oompa-loompas and attention seeking crazies anyday. :)

Funny thing is, my sister (and a few friends) keep trying to set me up lately. It's always with someone who's "ready to settle down"... I think we're going to have a falling out if she keeps it up! :p

How old are you? I have just come out of a long term relationship and (because all my friends are with someone) some of them are sooo eager for me to find someone else straight away - so I know where you are coming from! Doesn't help that I have 5 weddings this year as well :/

Saying that though... even Big Chris has stood me up on here :( boo!

;)

30 (fortunately don't look it!) - so my sister's remaining single friends are hitting the age where the panic alarm is going off. It doesn't really fill me with joy as I'm obviously being considered as some sort of last resort! :D Stable job, house, car, still reasonably sane... I actually got a marriage proposition from one of her friends 4 or so months back. She's now pregnant by a bloke she's been seeing for a few months. :D

I came out of my last proper long term relationship a few years ago now, and to be honest, I think my sister's getting concerned at how happy I've been with doing my own thing. She obviously wants to put an end to my fun and make sure I'm just as miserable as all my married friends... :p:p:p

Nice! Do you have friends getting married and having kids... that's where I am at and every wedding I go to I am expecting the 'pity' look :/

Being single has been fine ;) but the dating thing is ****! It is SOOO hard and you would think it would be 'easier' in London and well its easier to get a date in London than the outskirts, but there are a lot of oddballs here :/

Yep - thankfully I still have a few unmarried (and some divorced) friends, so that preserves my sanity. The "pity" look is not so bad, but it's the condescending "you really need to find someone and settle down" advice that drives me nuts! I'd rather find someone who'd want to see the world with me than put down roots.

I suppose once I've finished renovating the house I'll think about putting some effort in. :p

Back on topic - I reckon if I'd come across any of my ex gf's on PoF, there's no way I'd have even messaged them. That's quite worrying really - it's easy to be far too selective with these sort of sites because people are looking for someone who's "perfect". When you start talking to someone in a bar, you have no idea what music they're into, what their aspirations are, yet you still do it. :confused:

That is soooo true... and yet still 'Internet Dating' still has that stigma attached to it.

The pictures that annoy me are the chestbaring/sunglass wearing/phone in the mirror posing ones.... I always think 'oh dear'!

You can bet that plenty of people on PoF will pass you over because you like a certain band or a certain TV show and have put it on your profile. People seem to focus on the negatives rather than the positives online. I can't stand Eastenders but I'd not write someone off because they watched it. :p

Photos in the mirror - haha. If they don't know how to use a camera with a timer then that's a pretty bad sign I take it? :D

Girls are good at this too (not chestbaring sadly!) but there are quite a few who think they're pro-models, don't smile in the slightest but try and look smouldering and sexy which just makes you wonder just how far up their own backsides they really are.

Some are just plain delusional - and they will be on these sites forever in the hope of finding the person that they think they "deserve". Makes for entertaining viewing/reading, though. :D

BB - I really hate "dates" tbh. The problem is that there's an expectation that something should happen, and it just feels really awkward when things don't click. :o

POF

Thin = Average
Average = Fat
A few extra Pounds = Very Overweight/Obese
I'd rather not say = Doesn't want to tell people they are overweight

Am i right?
