** INTRODUCING 8Pack EXTREME SYSTEMS - THE FASTEST OFF THE SHELF PC's!! **

Epic prices on epic systems:eek:

Best start saving my pennies to get one of these but i dont think the missus will be too pleased:p

What CPU's are binned? The OEM's CPU's? I don't understand how CPU's can be binned, surely all the rubbish ones would then become second hand?

Edit just read Gibbo's post

That is what i have been doing since i found out about the cherry picking of chips for the last 3 years.
We aren't cherry picking from normal stock, I buy specially identified batches direct from Intel in large numbers (much to Gibbo's annoyance) & every one of these is used in systems & bundles. Every chip we speed bin is transferred to a separate part code which is never listed online.

You know I am curious for the first " I updated me Bios and lost my Overclock" post you guys will get with this system. :p
Since all of these come from a tightly controlled batch, so far we are finding that the same voltage settings appear to work on all of the boards. It would actually be easier to support these than the random CPU selection on most of our bundles

I'm sure being a system builder and partner to Intel due to the high grade stock they shift they have 'allocations' of these specially selected batches of chips of certain numbers in relation to their sales.

Individual pricing probably doesn't enter into it much as they're probably shifted in 100/500/1000pc units, then you would pay for X amount of shifted units at agreed market value on date such and such. Usually how large OEM's operate.

A bit, yes :( and then we have to test every one...but it's worth it I think.

It allows us to stand apart from the competition...this is what OcUK does best!!

Well why don't you buy more of these and then offer them for sale at a small premium so that your customers have a better chance of a good CPU?

People would complain that they paid extra for a CPU that does not run "the advertised 4.5ghz" because of their bad board/memory/settings etc.. (Or really crap luck)

I think it'd be too risky to sell em without bundles.

We buy CPU's in three ways:-

1. Retail chips, I buy and we get what were given, same as every other UK reseller/distributor.
2. OEM chips, again same as above.
3. OEM batch specific chips, where we try to buy what we think is a good batch, normally available in 500 / 1k units a time and can be hard to source. Were building 1000's of PC's every quarter, hence none to spare.

That means for points 1. and 2. we can still get good batches, but they are un-checked.

There just isn't enough quantity available from each batch. I bought every one of the last good batch that I could find & we are only talking about a few hundred units not a few thousand.

also Make has a very good point

We've been overclocking Haswell for about 5 months now, we started early & worked really hard. Thanks to our experimentation and 8Pack's gained knowledge we've come up with some very good overclock profiles that don't require the traditional "just crank up the V Core" approach.

But just to reiterate. Gibbo and I buy our CPU's separately, I don't use his stock for speed binning and none of the system chips make their way into his stock. We even have different suppliers.

Unfortunately, 8Pack steals all my best chips for himself...after all...Im not stupid enough to argue with him. He takes the top few from my top results, about 1 in 20, tests them again under his own stringient standards then throws his rejects back at me...he probably ends up keeping about 1 in 60 from a known good batch, that's a LOT of work to identify chips for his systems.

Amazing work as always...I'm sure 8pack will be busy with these ;)

Are OcUK getting some reviewers round for a visit? I assume you wouldn't send them out for for reviews. Would be great to see some benchies :D
