Invasion (Apple TV)

I honestly don't get what the point of this season was.

What should basically have been an opening 1-3 episodes is basically stretched over a whole season.

Nothing comes close to Hl2 and "welcome to city 17" tbh why can't someone do that atmosphere etc but in a TV series it would be way better.

I guess you could argue "colony" tried and it was certainly a lot better than this.

Well, that was underwhelming!

Most of the characters were complete dicks. The two English kids were the only ones I ended up giving a toss about.

Got to be the most boring final episode of a season I've ever watched. Without the looooooooooooooooooooong shots of each of the characters, especially the soldier guy, they could have probably stitched it to the end of the ep 9 and called it a day.

I did like the final image though, when we finally got to see it :)

Season 1 done and it doesn't disappoint, it's absolutely dreadful. Looking forward to season 2 to see if the writers can be anymore incompetent.

One of the writers David Weil seems to be a 1 trick pony. He's no stranger in producing mundane and pretentious multiple story arcs. You know what they say, a man with a hammer treats everything as a nail.

In agreement with that tbh, not often do I agree with verge :p

And this top comment is spot on.

I liked the first season. But for the last episode I was expecting at least some answers and… there are not. A part from that, it is nice to watch a sci-fi show which is completely different to the rest movies or series I have watched of this genre . Emphasising on the drama of the stories can be boring if you expect pure sci-fi, but as the writer says it makes you connect more with the stories that are told. Great to have a season 2 coming, but let’s be real. If this was a Netflix, Amazon… show, it would’ve never been renewed. Slow season for the general audience these days.

I think it's one of those shows you have to completely wipe away the standard expectation of what SciFi and alien invasion genre is typically in the mainstream eye.

I enjoyed the season, I did however miss something I think at the end of the last episode.
So they nuked something, I'm assuming it didn't work. However why couldn't we see this giant ship before? Cloaked or just arrived??plus if it was the nuke that stopped the monsters, was it the kid. What vital part of the story was I not paying attention to when this was explained

We don't know the kid's purpose yet, but it's clear he has some kind of condition that allows him to see the future or projections of the future since the aliens have been around. It may well be that the bit mother ship has been in the solar system for a very long time and only sent that sentry ship down to Earth to begin the initial process of changing Earth for their needs. In standard astronomy we currently cannot see everything that sits in our own solar system so in this story it would be feasible that the mother ship sat in a blind area that telescopes etc could not spot.

It was the sentry ship that contacted with the Hoshi which they nuked and it was after that which the mother ship decided to come closer and take matters into its own hands. We also see that the JASA people are saying the voice of the astronaut is synthetic so it appears the aliens know our language and are trying to fool ground control into thinking the people in space are still alive - Or maybe they are figuring the language out and using synthesised speech to start a line of communication. Too may questions so far with few answers.

The nuking of the sentry ship caused the aliens on Earth to drop dead so it's clear the aliens that landed were not biological but robotic in nature although their idea of robotic is very different to ours. Biological programming?

Also the sound waves are interesting. Over the last few years many instances of research and alternative thinking in how the fundamental aspects of the universe work are tied to sound frequency and vibrations, like how bridges have to match a certain resonant frequency and stuff like that. Sound and vibration forms a key backbone in everything in the universe.

I think shows like this are more interesting if the viewer has even a small amount of understanding of these real world ideas about the universe as it keeps thoughts curious in a way.

Watching the pilot at the mo...the fact I'm browsing ocuk says a lot.

Not worth bothering with then? It's trying very hard...but it's not really landing. Yawn fest...and I'm quite a fan of plodding, earnest sci-fi.

Back to Foundation methinks.

If I could go back in time and unwatch it then I very much would. The opening episode is about the best part of I think as at least it offers some kind of promise. From there pretty much nothing happens!

Surprised so many people disliked this. Thought it was one of the better pieces of alien invasion media. zombies/virus outbreak type media usually fall apart once the big bad is revealed but I thought this made a decent story out of it. That and I actually cared about the characters thanks to the build up and character development.

Maybe part of that is due to the fact I binged it all in one night, if i watched it weekly I could maybe see the frustration but I still think it’s different and captivating enough. The production value also shines through. Accidentally watched the season 2 trailer before an episode of Foundation, and it looks like it really picks up the pace and we get some solid action, a great way to continue on from that cliffhanger.
