iOS 7 Expectations & Wants

So does this thing actually multitask e.g. side by side? All the media is of iOS7 running on the iPhone. Do we know anything about how the UI scales to iPad screen sizes and whether iPads have any additional functionality?

It looks at how often you access different apps and bases how 'on' the app is when not in use off that, if I heard it right. So things you look at all the time will be running in the background, or at least refreshing/reloading frequently, but something you only look at once a day will only come to life once a day around the time you normally look at it.

Oh ya, forgot to add, no they didn't show anything iPad related, but I suspect they're saving that for when they unveil the 5th gen one anyway - new design, new OS, probably some iPad specific features.

Have to say it's pretty disappointing. The main upgrades are just copies of existing Android features. Whilst no doubt copying has gone both ways Apple has failed to innovate again.

When will we see something genuinely new?

You can't reinvent the wheel every year  and moreover, users of iOS don't want you to. This is probably the biggest change to iOS new adding features (which admittedly should have been in previous iterations), you can't change it too much.

Just out of curiosity... If they went proper multi tasking with the iPad (which is unlikely), how would the scalling work? Portrait iPad mini is almost three iPhones in portrait mode. I'm not sure they could effectively implement it without causing a headache for developers.

Get in, a trace keyboard, so chuffed they added that!

Oh, hang on a minute....

Other than that stonkingly glaring omission (for me anyway), I'm reasonably happy with what's on offer, even though a lot of it seems to be playing catch-up with features Jailbroken iOS, Android and others have had for a while.

It's all a bit......different. Very very early impressions are up on RedmondPie. I'll be posting something more in-depth tonight.

How are guys getting the beta already?

my phone udid is linked to my brother-in-law's dev account so i can test apps for him.

the files can be "downloaded" from the internets although part of the upgrade process says "verifying update with apple" it has been reported that you dont need your udid linked but who knows how long that will last.

alternatively pay $99 for a years dev account
