I think I might hold off installing on my phone for a while. There's a thread on macrumors full of people reporting high d cpu usage causing battery drain when using the GM release with a phone with an EE sim

Just about managed 28 hours battery with normal use on a 5S, and that's with a new iFixit battery kit installed 2 months ago. 24 hours standby, 3 hours 44 mins use.

Have disabled Siri suggestions to see if that makes any difference on the next full charge.

Edit - I have all push stuff disabled, brightness at 1/4, mobile reception, and wifi on.

Now it's settled down I'm not noticing any battery issues with 9.0 but I don't think it's a particular great release. There are some nice features but it feels unfinished and sloppy. Some things are a bit hit and miss.

For example, going into the app switcher, sometimes the currently active app fills the screen, other times it's only half size and showing to the right. I'd expect the current app to be the primary one shown when switching but it's not. Except that sometimes it is! It's just not consistent.

I don't generally like going to beta versions but if 9.1 beta is better than this, I'm tempted. However my UUID isn't registered as a developer so I don't know if I can install it.

I think 9.0 isn't going to be popular if this GM is what's released.

I tried the 9.1 beta on my mini 2 and it feels slower. The app switching is a mess and stutters about a fair bit. I also had a few freezes and apps closing for no reason.

I found 9.0 to be disappointing too, 9.1 seems to be behaving a lot better in terms of WiFi management and messaging. 9.1 also has the news app at last.

First thing I tried yesterday.

Just grabbed the 8.4.1 ipsw, going to restore back to that for now I think. I was getting nearly 2 days out of the battery previous to iOS9.

Looks like there is absolutely no way possible to downgrade to 8.4.1 once you pop the 9 GM on, despite the fact Apple are still signing releases.

I read the warnings, but in previous releases you've always been able to step back. Dah.

Sadly not, tried that way and DFU and I can't even get past iTunes validating the FW. Just says it's not compatible with the phone.

I've grabbed the IPSW from Apple's DL servers, so I'm 99.9% sure it's the right one (iPhone 5S GSM A1457).

edit - Seems Apple's DL links aren't correct. Was downloading iPhone6,1 IPSWs and not iPhone6,2 IPSWs. Happy days, back to iOS8 for now.
