Literally :D

Within minutes of the launch of the iOS6 operating system, which comes preloaded with Apple Maps, users were reporting that Paddington station had vanished, London had been relocated to Ontario, the Sears Tower in Chicago had shrunk, and Helsinki railway station had been turned into a park. Dublin, meanwhile, has been gifted a previously undiscovered airport.

*edit, damn, this belongs in software. Can it be deleted?

Pld Apple :p

edit: some people seem to be slating Google for not having a GMaps App for the Apple app store.... How come this is suddenly their fault? LOL. You have go to wonder if Apple will allow a GMaps app in their "walled garden" anyway.

Airfield, a 35-acre greenfield site with working farm, formal gardens and cafe, has been designated as an airport by the Apple database, which has labelled it with the aeroplane icon it uses for genuine aircraft landing spots.

In a statement Shatter said: "Clearly the designation is not only wrong but is dangerously misleading in that it could result in a pilot, unfamiliar with the area, in an emergency situation and without other available information, attempting a landing."

Lol, 'Ppilot using an iphone lands in farm' would be a great headline :D

I know this sort of thing happens to other companies all the time, but it's all the more hilarious when it happens to Apple.

Why?

It was their first release of their mapping application so there was bound to be issues, I'm sure it will all be fixed with time. Got to remember Google have been developing their maps over the past 7 years at least so they've had plenty of time to get things right :p

The would be a valid excuse, if it wasn't on a 'feature' that other devices have had for years and work flawlessly.

Google had teething problems with Google maps.... 10 years ago.

As much as I like iOS, and no doubt Apple will fix this (they have to), it is absolutely laughable and a pretty big PR blunder on the eve of the new phone launch. No way should they have included their own maps app when it clearly isn't ready.

Obviously the testing team spent too much time zooming around a 3D Westminster Tower too notice how crap the rest of the world looked :o

One of the things Google did to make it better was to allow the public to update the maps. Not directly but people could report the problems and someone at Google would review it and change it if needed AND quickly. I have submitted a couple of updates and they were fixed in 48 hours, sometimes same day and reflected on the site.... Will Apple allow this or is that handing too much control to the public... you know how they like doing that? :p

Thousands buy Iphone 5 then cant find their way home

Nah, kidding aside apple will sort this, they will just start digging up roads and bulldozing homes till it matches an google is wrong

Seem to remember a few guys here getting giddy over the prospect of their iOS experience "being free from the claws of Google ".
How's that working out for you?

Uh, I wasn't defending Apple by saying that it could happen to anybody. Quite the opposite, in fact; I find it quite amusing when things go wrong for Apple, especially after their tedious "it just works" campaigns of the past.
