iOS6 Changing how you see the world

Good for you. Are you by any chance installing microelectronics on the aircraft? Because I'm pretty sure allowing for external storage isn't that big of a deal, given the sheer number of Android phones that allow for it.

I think the biggest trade-off is that Apple wouldn't be able to charge you £100 extra for £10 worth of storage. That is a real issue for them, and I'm sure you know it as an understanding Apple consumer.

Why does it matter if the size of the objects you are integrating are in the nm or the cm? You have finite space and have to decide what goes in that space.

Just out of interest, in your opinion, if Apple said tomorrow to their design team that they wanted an microSD card slot in the phone, what would you alter in order to accommodate that?

I'm not an engineer, but many other similarly sized phones allow for SD cards, so I don't know what the issue is when it comes to design.

If there's a real world limitation, then it would have to be redesigned and made 1-2 mm thicker. I don't see the real problem.

Whether it's secure or not, that's a subject for another discussion.

What similar sized phone, with similar construction techniques and similar components?
No it's all Part off the same discussion on why apple has not chosen sd, same with google nexus phones and others.

:( ok this is total unacceptable, pubs are in the wrong place. What's surprised me is 2 of the three I've looked at, have also be in the wrong place on google maps.

Reported the problem, see how long it takes to fix. At least apple has a report an issue button, I can't see an easy way to report it on google maps.

Just been having a look on yelp and there are loads more pubs on yelp which aren't on apple maps. What's the deal with yelp and apple maps.

Took me 5 sec in Google to find the link. It was the first.

Yelp is maintained by the community and businesses from what I remember, so that may be the reason why it's up to date.

Frankly, I think Apple should never finish an unfinished product. A preview perhaps, but pinning down their customers by forcing to use Apple Maps when they're so flawed for people who rely on them is just wrong.

So far beta-testing on their consumers has been done by Google, times have apparently changed.

.

Hardly as easy as an in app reporting tool, you can use drop pin and the like.

I agree it should off been tested more, a lot of these things could off been sorted out easily enough with a few testers from each city.

What I don't get is apple map uses yelp, but there's plenty of business on yelp, which don't show up on apple maps. That's what I don't get.

On the android version you can press and hold a point and it will load the address which you can then click to report a problem. Not sure if that works on IOS though, may be worth a try. :)

If you use Around Me, does that still use Google Maps..
Because it says "powered by Google"?

FFS why did I have to upgrade...

This is ducking grit! So many places in Cardiff are just completely wrong... I mean, how do you put the millenium stadium in the wrong place???? C'mon!

Edit... And why are the maps so dark when zoomed in????

I've been reading around on this and I've come to following conclusion.

Apple where aware this product was sub standard before releasing it to the general public. But getting it out was more important than the damage associated with the flack , I'll explain why. I suspect apple have concluded that mapping is going to become the next killer feature and that we have not yet seen it's full potential. The quality and functionality of "your" map app will define the success of the product it's installed on. I believe Apple were worried that Goggle would pull a Microsoft on them and render the hardware manufacturer irrelevent. They knew that it would take a long time to bring their maps up to standard and that this process would require a strong element of crowd sourcing. So they took the call to take the hit and as someone else so eloquently put it, spend some of the "goodwill" they had in the bank by releasing a shoddy product. But it was better to take the hit now, rather than potentially fall further behind or release a poor product once mapping had already become the killer feature for most users. This fiasco is bad for Apple, but it's not ciritcal. The shear number of sales seems to indicate that this is not a massive problem for most users.

I believe apple will now be working 100% to catch up with google. I don't believe this though will result in any significant increase in their app within the next 9 to 12 months. We as the users are caught in the middle. In the long run this should be a good thing, as goggle will hopefully have a strong competitor. In the short and mid term we have to suffer with a critically flawed mapping app.

This is my two cents worth. I could be talking complete pish. It might just be that Apple competely messed up. Maybe arrogance, over confidence and a lack or respect for the end user was the cause. I guess we'll never know.

I'd agree with the above a bit...certainly Apple are getting more arrogant and this fiasco (in what terms people will argue over of course) wouldn't have been half as bad if Steve was still in charge...however they are expecting users in general to contribute and make the app better, and as Apple users in general are more forthcoming with helping (more proactive perhaps) it should improve. Other users from other platforms however are pulling fun at Apple and I do believe this has resulted in a lot of people defecting from iOS and the iPhone 5 in general. I personally know a lot of people who waited to see what this launch brought, but decided to go with Android (in particularly the SGS 3)

Oh and just to add I also know a few people who don't want to upgrade to a 5 simply because all their docks etc. will be made redundant...
