iOS7 and iPhone 4, any takers?

Growing up has got nothing to do with it.

I've always backed up my phone, transferred music and managed podcasts through iTunes. So yes I do have to use iTunes. Because I want to.

Win 95 is an irrelevant argument at so many levels, your talking about a product that existed nearly 10 years ago. iTunes 11 has only been around for 6 moths to a year? You think it's reasonable to write off updates to a device after 6 months?

Eh? Updates to what "device"? We're talking about a piece of software which isn't mandatory but which you choose to use, and which requires an update in order to be compatible with iOS 7. Sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

The Win 95 analogy, whilst extreme, is totally relevant. Just as you wouldn't expect any modern software to still support that operating system, why should we expect iOS 7 to work with an older version of iTunes that was released long before iOS 7 existed?

6 months is not long before. I won't update to iOS7. That's my choice and I'm fine by that. However as has been mentioned elsewhere, those sticking with iOS6 are not going to have any security updates which is a bad and something that should be reasonable.

I have in problems at all all on my 32gig iphone 4, using iOS 7. So I don't know how others have. It's very quick and just as quick as iOS 6 which ran flawlessly. I can only assume there are different revisions of same phone. One problem I have come across is much reduced battery life, I've posted in the other main thread about this. Disabled a few things, will see how it goes. But speeds not a problem.

my battery life seemed noticeably lower too - one of the reasons I flashed back to 6 - I was using IOS7 more on that day - to try it out so possibly factor that a little bit but I had to charge the phone at lunchtime and on a 2 hour train journey home it had dropped from 100% down to 30-40% !

but since flashing to 6 yesterday

I'm at 14% charge left - usage: 3 hours 55, Standby 1 day 1 hour

which is more like what I was getting

Updated it last night and it works fine, no determinable loss of battery life. Only downsides are it is marginally slower to open apps, overall look isn't as good but is nice Apple finally did something different. For me it's worth it just for the control centre with ease of access to Bluetooth on/off, but also the new tabs to switch between and close apps is a great improvement, increased folder size and safari tab limitation lifted, and new ringtones are a nice bonus.

Just remember to switch off access to control centre on the lock screen as apparently there is a security flaw which would allow a thief to disabled airplane mode thereby removing your ability to remotely wipe or locate the phone using Find my iPhone.

Upgraded my 4s to 7 this morning. It feels really sluggish, and I'm skeptical of the new design. It took me a good 5 minutes to work out how to close an app compared to the 6 way -_-

Updated mine. Faster in some places and slower in others, but overall about the same speed. Surprised that the new features haven't introduced much slowdown.

But then, it was already pretty slow on iOS6, so I wouldn't say it's a good experience. IMO you need at least a 4S to run either iOS6 or iOS7 without getting frustrated.

I don't understand what you're saying. If you want to use iOS 7 with iTunes, you just download 11.1. It's a free update which takes five minutes and doesn't change the functionality at all. What's being written off?

So took the chance and installed iOS7 onto my mums iphone4 and its certainly different to the previous version. Not really liking the white background in the menu's but my mum seems to think its a lot nicer than the previous OS which was iOS6.1 or something.

It for some odd reason has sped up the phone a bit and the animations look nicer but its not really that much different to iOS6 in all honesty.

iTunes 11 as I've said previously is a terrible piece of software. It's ugly, disjointed, has had a feature removed which was really important to me (hapless playback) and I can't use it as a result.

I might try and find if I can do a dual installation of iTunes...

darn - theres me now happy going back to IOS 6

and I find out IOS 7 now supports the use of USB dacs (even on Iphone 4) - via the Camera CCK

decisions time

Never used the Google chrome app or an android device? If not I guess it's not obvious.

Actually noticed improved battery life today but also a random crash, which never happened on iOS 6.

Is anyone else having trouble logging in to find my iPhone app? I type in my email and password hit login, the signing in thing spins for a couple of seconds then nothing happens, it just stays on the login screen

No problems with speed on my 32gig iphone 4 here. And the battery life has dramatically improved. Not sure how or why but it has. Might be cos I turned off auto app updates and bluetotooth, plus traffic in privacy / location services/ system services / traffic. Much much better. Happy now.

I have all of those swithced on and still the battery life is better than on ios 6.1.3!

The slight lagginess will annoy me over time but for now it's fine and i like the new look and feel.

Is it slow? Yes
Is it useable? Yes - if you don't mind waiting 15 seconds for Facebook to launch.
Is it better? No, it is just different.

I did it to give the phone a refresh, until it dies and I can replace it with whatever new iPhone out there. I've decided I am not upgrading for the sake of upgrading until it is unusable.

I admire your patience, I have a 4S and I think that's getting a bit long in the tooth :p

So a couple of days in with the new iOS7 on my mums iphone4 and it has slowed the phone down, sometimes it takes a few seconds to unlock ie from waking up to inputting the pin code and also have found some apps ie whatsapp and a few others that she has do take a few secs to open. So definitely it has slowed the phone down from iOS6.1 which was on it before i dropped iOS7 on it. But for some odd reason iOS7 has slightly improved battery life i have found.

It will have to do until i get a hold of a gold iphone 5s for my mum as thats the colour she has her heart set on now:p.
