Apple looks set to release the next version of its iPad in February next year – that is if a claim bubbling up in Taiwan is to be believed.

DigiTimes reported today that iPhone and iPad manufacturing giant Foxconn has been told to build 400,000 to 600,000 units of Apple’s next iteration of its much-loved fondle slab in the next 100 days.

Am I seeing this right ? The iPad 2 upgrade is just a camera and mobile network tweak ?

I expect a RAM upgrade, front facing camera, gyroscope and a resolution boost (not retina).

I'll be peeved if it really does arrive in Feb. I'll still buy it though just for a resolution and ram increase, which is all I require. Balls to the rest.

I'll pass my present iPad onto the parents who, as technophobes can use the device in full confidence, which is my main reason for purchasing the thing tbh.

I'm buying one second hand very soon, I don't think the upgrade will bother me tbh. See no need for it to have a camera, and I'll only be using it for browsing the web, reading e-books and films.

Yep. The only thing really holding the v1 behind is the lack of ram tbh. Safari shows this all too easily. I too wanted to hold out until v2, but I gave in and got mine a few months ago :(

Agree, how some tabs have to reload etc.

I can't see myself ever using the front facing camera tbh. Unless facetime takes over the world.. but even then. Like the amount of times I use webcam on msn or skype.

Don't know why people think a resolution increase is a given, a minor bump wouldn't be worth the hassle it'd cause developers.

Regardless, it seems like Apple have shot themselves in the foot by creating and pushing this "Retina" buzzword, because it won't be feasible to apply it to the iPad even if they did give a (realistic) resolution increase.

Well because they talked about the retina being *4 the pixels.

Which everyone knows is ridiculous to have on an iPad without it costing a year wages :P They will probably improve it though yer.

Agreed. Apple waited until they could fit a double-resolution screen before upgrading the iPhone. I doubt the iPad 2 will have a 2048x1536 screen. Most 24" monitors don't have that!

Would love to see dual-core, more RAM and a camera though. The amount of people caught out by the recent camera kit power changes shows that a USB socket would be welcomed too.

It's not like the current one is slow....

True, but once the iPhone 4 came out you could see what sort of things the iPad 2 could probably have and tbh I don't really NEED one, so there's no harm in waiting to see what v2 has in store. It's essentially going to be an indulgence buy given most of the things I'd use it for I get by doing on the phone reasonably well, just they'll be better with the bigger screen.

No, that's what I mean. The next iPad will still be 1024x768, mark my words :)
