iPad Mini Retina - Now available!!!!!!!!!!!!

I upgraded from an original Mini and the screen sharpness improvement is fantastic, text and images (and videos) look noticeably better!

In other news my online order has also apparently been dispatched. I'll probably return my store bought one when it arrives now. Oops.

Mines dispatched from China so that explains the long estimate for delivery, interesting that
the first online orders are coming from china rather than warehouses in UK, must really be low yields on it.

Thats the norm for all Apple products ordered online.

Same here. Even if it was a week or two as initially estimated, I'd rather wait than go into one of their cringe worthy stores & I work almost next door to the Bath one :p

I don't need a mini with retina my current mini is fine

Do you think if I repeat it enough I'll believe it. Love my current mini and it gets a solid 6/7 hours use a day. I'm a taxi driver and use mine for satnav taking bookings watching films in between jobs etc etc the retina looks like it brings a whole lot more to the game.

For those who have one what's film quality like on it? That's the only gripe I have with my current mini and is the cellular 4g ready?

Haha, I'm repeating the same thing to myself!

It's one of those upgrades you don't realise you need until you use it but the old mini screen looks terrible in comparison.

I've been hearing comments about how the Mini's screen doesn't have the same colour depth as the Air's. A bit like how the iPhone 4's was better than the first gen iPod touch Retina were.

Can anyone confirm this?

I see it on my retina mini. It just looks less punchy next to an Air. But you won't be next to an air so it won't bother you.

So the weight if the mini retina with a case is the same as an air without.

I purchased invisible shield for my Air so I don't have a case. It is true that I can do the same for the mini but the weight is better distributed across the air as it is larger than the mini. The mini is more dense and that is what I feel when holding it.

Just to be clear I am not saying its heavy. I just have decided my preference is with the Air so this mini is going back this evening.

Just got home with mine after picking it up from the apple store - overall very impressed so far but I have a question, I have the wi-fi cellular version but I can't find a way to top up mobile data from the iPad, how do you do it?

Omg, the colours on the retina mini are crap. They're like the iPad 2.

The air is a significantly better screen, the colours are more in line with the iPad 3 and 4.

Overclockers is the best test for this, the blue is so much deeper and richer looking on the iPad air.

Annoyed.

Seeing a lot of reports of muted colours on the mini compared to the Air. Given that Apple have been having supply problems with the screen, hence the low availability right now, it would seem that perhaps the technology just isn't quite there yet for the screen.

If this is a general problem rather than a few isolated faulty screens, I'd be wary of Apple either switching to a different supplier in future (have been rumours of them tapping Samsung for screens) or even an updated model within a year, much as happened with the underpowered iPad 3.

Will we be able to walk into a store tomorrow and buy one off the shelf? (I'm probably going to get one from a supermarket or one of the big chain electrical stores) If not, when?

I've just laid 4 iPads side by side:

iPad Air, iPad mini retina, iPad mini, iPad 2.

The colour saturation is obviously worst on the iPad 2, with the mini and retina mini being identical to each other. The air is leagues ahead with far more vibrant blues and to much the same extent reds.

Also, it's practically impossible to discern any difference between the airs 200odd dpi and the minis 300odd.

Ah seems its confirmed that the mini retina only has an approx 62% colour gamut compared to the airs 100%.

What a load of crap. Thanks Apple for fudging up the mini yet again.
