iPad Mini...

Is their a way to keep skype running whilst I'm voice skyping and playing a game at the same time? When I'm voice skyping and load a game, it puts the other person on hold until I close the app.

Cheers

iPad 10 inch is better IMO. The screen and sharpness is night and day compared to my wife's mini. Ehy didn't they add retina display on these?

Doubt they could have fit retina in its current form into the mini chassis.

I did compare the mini side by side to a 10" ipad 4 and yes while some of the text was clearer, I didnt feel the extra £130 was worth it currently.

£130 seems a fair price for the much better screen and better cpu/gpu to me

that said the form factor of the Mini is nicer

I'd still pick a full size Ipad though

how can the nexus 7 be 720p res? i think the ipad mini could at least match same res as many 7 inch tabs out their.

What makes text sharp and less strain on the eyes is resolution

Ahh ok cool.

i love my ipad though! 3rd gen :)

edit: is there a app that of some sort that can convert and compress mkv files that are 720/1080p videos? MOST 720/1080P movies are between 5-10gb :(

I agree retina is lovely but the CPU/GPU argument isn't as important as you might think when comparing the two devices, although the CPU/GPU are much better in the 4th gen they are having to power an extremely high resolution, where as the A5 chip in the mini only has to push 1024x768, so in terms of actual real world performance there isn't actually as big a difference as you might imagine.

One area that I do think apple skimped on though is the ram, they really should have used 1gig, even 'budget' phones have a gig of ram these days, I can't help feel that apple were testing the market with the mini, will be very interesting to see if a new iteration of the mini is announced in March, the form factor of the mini is perfect for me, if it had a 'retina' display I don't think I would need another tablet for a very long time.

Got mine this morning :D

LOVE it! Admittedly all I have done with it is play gat vice city but it is quality! Just love the size of it more than anything else, have used a full sized one before but decided it was very heavy (even if the place in St Albans was offering an ipad 3 for only £50 more than a mini which looked a good deal).

Just got mine. No retina isn't a big deal and I don't really notice it. Yes the retina display is nice and should be incorporated I to the next update but I'm happy with my choice not to wait.

I agree with lowrider... I think they produced it to test the water, much like how the iPad1 was "gimped" and had no camera etc even though it was possible, this has no retina to test the waters and see if it would sell.

Much prefer this to my old iPad. And it is soooooo light!!

So many people are saying the iPad mini is preferable to the iPad and news sites saying manufacturing has been retooled to make less iPad and more iPad mini. Steve Jobs will be turning in his grave. :D Maybe Apple are surprised by the uptake and will deliver a proper spec upgrade for the next model instead of something half-hearted.

I love the mini, I've played around with my brothers full size iPads quite a lot and I prefer the mini's form factor a lot more, I really hope Apple stick with the 4:3 aspect ratio.

I'm actually thinking that maybe I should have gone for a 4g one now, although I think I'll wait until march and see if a retina one is released first before considering trading up.

With rumours of the iPhone+ I wouldn't be surprised if the iPas mini becomes standard and the normal iPad is rebranded as the IPad+

In both instances they will both have to have more grunt than their smaller counterparts!

Seriously prefer this over my old iPad and glad I made the move :D the question is when will they update it? With demand as high as it is they could wait a year or at least until the summer (9months).

The res is not an issue in the slightest. People seem to forget that at 1024x768 it is a similar resolution to a lot of laptops (my 13" is 1280x800) and they have easily usable resolutions.

IMO you have to stick your nose less than 6 inches from the screen to start to notice any pixels

If that's true then you need to get your eyes tested. I'm serious.

I compared a mini side by side to a full size retina iPad with the same PDF on each and apart from some clarity on symbols like & I could not really tell the difference from a sensible reading distance.

nah. I've only ever owned Apple products with retina screens, an iphone 4s, then an ipad 3. I can tell an ipad mini's not retina a mile off. It's not like an ipad or an ipad 2 (which just look weird to me) but it's easy noticeable. So much so I've not bought one...

But then I have good eyesight ;)

I can assure you that the mini has a higher ppi than your desktop monitor, for example a 24" monitor @ 1920x1080p only has a ppi of 91.79, compared with the mini's ppi of 162.03, we stare at our monitors all day with extremely low ppi and don't even think twice about it, yet we don't see people refusing to buy monitors because they aren't 'retina'.

I honestly think people have become obsessed with this Apple invented buzzword.
