iPad now?...or wait?

people working in the apple store are absolutely not going to be any more in the know that any of us. They have pretty well determined points of the year for this sort of thing that points to a Q1 announcement for a Q2 launch.

I've personally not waited, ordered mine the other day, if the ipad follows the same refresh as the iphones I can't see it being that much better, camera would be handy but not necessary if you already have an iphone4?, and I WILL laugh a the first person i see holding up that 10" slab taking a photo :)

was looking at buying one for myself for Christmas present, but comparing it to a £199 netbook doesn't jutify the ipad price tag does it?. nice gadget yes, but as some mention above, a camera on ipad2 wouldn't only be unessasary, but it wouldn't "look right".

I am in the same boat, I desperately want an iPad however if they are to unveil a new version in Jan for an Spring release then it really does not make sense to buy one now.

When they announced the last iPad it had a 90 days countdown before it was released in the States, it was announced in late Jan/early Feb.. And we had a delayed launch than the Americans, taking it to end of May

Apple should announce it in late Jan/early Feb. Or they might wait until April, with a shorter/zero delay before announce and launch like they do with their iPods/MacBooks. It was unusual to see a 90 days gap between announcement to launch for the iPad. Perhaps they wanted the hype to build up more, and want people to save up in that time as it was a new product for the market. However, I don't think we will see that again this time since it is selling REALLY well, by announcing in January and releasing it in April will hit the sale of the current model. They have zero interest in doing that, it makes no business sense.

I too am waiting. Nearly bought one a few weeks ago but the rumors were strong enough for me to hold on. Improved speed and weight being the main reasons. Not bothered about the camera, although I can see why they would want it for things like Facetime rather than taking pictures.

It will be interesting to see which approach they go for this time. I think you might be right I suspect they will go for a shorter time between announcement and ship date this time round

I wouldnt get hung up on new features to be honest. If theres anything I would want it would be the increased memory as the iphone 4 currently has twice as much as ipad. You need to look at it for future apps etc. Seeing as you dont need one I would wait for either a v2 or a cheaper V1.
Doing this may allow you to get more storage for your buck if you end up waiting n still getting a v1.

I'm going to say it wont be early 2011, I predict June-August.

Why replace an item which is still selling like hotcakes, you wait for the tiniest decline and then release the new version and watch as that takes off!

One of the Mac blog sites indicated (purportedly form industry sources) that the second generation iPad would be released in April 2011 and it the updates included two cameras, improved screen resolution, and that the iPad would become slimmer in much the same way as the iPhone 4 differs from the iPhone 3. Personally I'm waiting for the second generation model.

Erm, all of those almost seems like a logical step anyway...Insider lol.

It's like guessing prior to the launch of the iPhone 3G that it will have 3G.

Personally i don't see how it could get slimmer, or if it is, how much it could get, its not needed to be slimmer for a start. It can be lighter though.

And as for April 2011 release, i said that all along, 12 months cycle like the iPhone. It doesn't take a genius or an "insider" to work that out.

I got a 32gb wifi model for Christmas, didn't know I was getting one from the mrs until today, so can't complain. Not too bothered about a better model out in the spring, Can't see me using a camera on a ipad, as I have an iphone 4. A screen res boost would be nice though!

I'm in the same boat, want one now. Camera would be nice for FaceTime. I guess I could buy one now, and sell it when v2 comes out. May cost me £100 for the privilege but I could live with that!
