iPhone 12 or Samsung S21

Well I put my money where my mouth is and got an s21 ultra. I'd almost say it was worth it for the screen alone, the 120hz display on the galaxy makes a big difference and makes my work iPhone feel like a slug. That's before we even get to my general dislike of iOS.

Tbh it's a well-known fact, if you want a phone and you do not like tinkering customizing it making it yours (it just works out of the box)then iphone ios it is. If you want to be able to tinker on it customize it change the way it looks ect then it's an android phone.

I've never understood this viewpoint, which phone doesn't work out of the box exactly? Just because you can tinker doesn't mean you have to. Nice to have the option though?

Indeed.

Android can be as simple or as customisable as you want it to be.

Maybe try an Android phone that isn't a Samsung? The Exynos processor is known to be a lot less efficient than a Snapdragon.
I’m limited to whatever EE has on offer which is mainly Samsung or Apple and has to be ip68. Otherwise I’d be happy with a A70/1

I think you have to take things like that with a very big grain of sand with way to many variables in it. how many apps you have running, how much you use your phone if you game on it. listen to music. how many emails and notifications you receive, how you actually condition the battery, all play a factor, As many people say no two people are the same, thus how each person uses their phones will be different. And not being funny some people might be happy with short battery life. I myself am always near somewhere to charge my phone. and with how fast they charge now it's not really a problem(for me anyhow) Whilst the battery life on my old Samsung galaxy s21 ultra(uk 512gb) was not the best i still managed with it perfectly. i will say this though.; the battery life is far far better on my new Samsung galaxy s21 ultra (uk 512gb). but that is ofc my usage patterns and the battery is phone is still learning.
Main uses are Camera maybe 5 minutes of day Spotify and Netflix hour a day maybe less then 2/3 hours internet browsing
, Reddit and YouTube. That usage on my S9 taken off charge at 0600 was down to 20% by 1500. IPhone 11 same usage I’m on 55% on WiFi or 40% using 4G.

Am thinking my next mobile phone going be an apple one ( i never owned an apple mobile phone before :o)

One the reasons is i feel it totally crazy how Samsung mobile phones only gets major Software updates for 2 years
And the other main reason is that i really had enough now of how android blocks loads of apps from being available in my location

IOs is also far more customisable than it used to be. It will never match Android but the main frustrations (no widgets, enforcement of defaults apps) have gone.

But [on iOS] I still can't have my app icons wherever I choose without workarounds like adding widgets I might not want to force them down to the bottom of the screen. That's just one of my gripes. Another is lack of split screen. I could keep going but I won't bore you all with it. As for default apps, only on certain apps can you make another app the default. It has improved I agree, but I still don't get on with it. It's a decent polished system for sure, but lets not kid ourselves that it is in any way near Android for customisation.

You are correct but having said that most people who read forums like this or watch the various youtube vids are enthusiasts. those who like to do more with their phones be it function or the way their phones look. yes, you can use any phone out of the box, but like I said most people who look at these types of forums and others like it ect generally want to do more. It is always better to have the option if you so wish to tinker than be stuck with a phone that perhaps is missing some things you wish it had or a phone you do not like the look of the ui than simply having to put up with it.

With regards to the iPhone having a more closed or locked system and having to do things the way Apple ‘tell’ you isn’t always a bad thing.
I have my fair share of technophobic family members and I can tell you iPhones are an absolute joy in that regard.
It’s generally all the little things that tend to either snowball or just add up over time. It’s crazy the number of times I’ve had to fix someone’s phone because they’ve downloaded an errant app from the Play Store or their budget Chinese brand phone is annoying them with ads or even just as simple as trying to explain the difference between the Huawei gallery and Google Photos.
When they get an iPhone life is just so much simpler!

From my own point of view I think I’ve reached the stage where I too am happy be a “sheep” so to speak. I have had Androids all my life and did my fair share of modding and custom ROMS etc but I honestly just don’t have the patience or, truth be told, the understanding to be at that carry on anymore.

My last couple of Androids I have literally just used them out of the box as intended, no custom launchers or themes as I just no longer have the inclination to. So I figured I may as well give Apple a go.
