iPhone 2.0 firmware available now

Sure, it works. I do similar with linux using custom ipsw's. As always with this stuff if your worried just wait till someone makes a tool to do it for you :)

Its very difficult to actually brick your phone (the s5l CPU DFU mode is in ROM). You can brick the s-gold baseband but its very difficult to do unless you are specifically patching it wrongly.

What's this Cydia all about then? What happened to installer?

Installer isn't working with 2.0 yet, Cydia is an alternative that's been around for a while. I didn't install it like a numpty cos I didn't realise Installer wasn't there.

I have just downgraded back to 1.1.4 from 2.0, it just did not feel completely stable in its current form. Had problems such as apps taking a long time to open and also crashing more often than before as well as the keyboard and contacts list being very laggy. Another big problem although this is related to iTunes as well is how long it now takes to back up the phone when apps have been downloaded. Hopefully 2.0.1 will be better for me :)

Seems a bit hit and miss. Been fine for me, but I know some are finding it awful.

Got my 8GB arrive today. 2.0 is just as poor on that as it is on my Touch :(
Horrendous typing lag, contact list on mail takes about 5 seconds to appear, and stuttery movement when I flick through photos :/

May sound like a thick question but I havn't done the following before.

I want to wack some music onto my iPhone so can I just download iTunes now, connect my iPhone and then copy music onto it, without having to update my iphone to 2.0 or losing anything thats already on my phone?

haven't found any problems with contacts. Only problem I had was with transferring my email accounts. Mail app would crash on launch, read a bit about this on another forum and re-installed cracked firmware again with Itunes and now all is working sweetly. Got push email working ok and all data has been backed up to the phone again.

Yeah I had that mail issue when I upgraded my touch to 2.0 too. Ended up having to restore the touch as a new device in iTunes.

The winpwn software is really ropey so I am now struggling to get back to 1.1.4 as although I had 2.0 running I had no signal.

To top it off my backup failed so I lost all of my recent pictures and such. I'm sticking with 1.1.4 untill everything is nice and polished I think.
