iPhone 3GS - Available on Orange soon

It was nice of Orange to ask us to register to be updated when this was available but i never got an email?

Anyway £175 for the 32Gb 3Gs on a 24month £35pm contract is a bit steep. Think i will be sticking with nokia..

Do Orange have a pay-as-you-go data plan that's not rubbish? I'd like to bring my 3G to Orange, but where O2 give you unlimited web and wi-fi for £10 a month, Orange seem to want to charge £5 a week or something. (I can't really figure it out because their website is dreadful.)

A friend received a 3am update text from Orange, that woke him. He called Orange the next day to tell them to poke their upgrade up their respective bottoms, and now he's on his way to o2.

3am text updates, I mean really. Daft.

Another thing worth noting for those trying to decide between O2 and Orange for their iPhone is that O2 now unlock all pay monthly iPhones (and PAYG ones after 12 months) whereas with an Orange supplied handset you are stuck with using an Orange SIM. Worth thinking about if you are planning on selling the iPhone either during or after your contract period as an 'officially' unlocked iPhone will be worth quite a bit more than other iPhones locked or unlocked by dodgy methods.

I read somewhere yesterday that Orange allow you to unlock your iphones straightaway for a fee if you wish.

I'll look for the link. cant find the link.might just be France:/

£9.50 a month for 1gb usage . Personally for me thats plenty sufficient.:)

You can get an Iphone 3G and 3GS on T-Mobile UK if you are a customer with them and looking to upgrade. For the past 3-4 months they have bought up unlocked Euro stock from a 3rd party supplier and sell to through the retentions team. They are aimed at higher spenders, contract prices are about the same as O2/Orange prices but T-Mob have a better 3g network.

Yeah, damn them for choosing a quiet time to send out loads of texts. I mean, it's not like they know anything about the ebbs and flows of demands on the SMS system.

Seems they care more about SMS system load than cheesing their sleeping subscribers off, doesn't seem like a particularly apt customer focused attitude to me.

Any chance you could link me to that? I can't find a thing on the Orange website regarding cheap pay-as-you-go internet... I can only find pay-monthly.

Still really annoying though. When I was on T-Mobile, they also texted me at 3am occasionally - really irritating. I have my phone on at night in case I receive an important phone call, not T-Mobile propaganda.

Urm, no. Leaving your phone on when you don't want to be woken is really daft. Sending nest updates at 3am sounds like the best time to do it.

Exactly, if people are desperate to get hold of you when you are home then surely they can ring the land line. I turn my mobile off when I go to sleep.

I leave my phone on audible all the time as I'm on call for work, if I get woken for work then fair enough - it's what I'm being paid to do.

Receiving a wake up text out of the blue from my mobile provider hocking me a phone at 3am is not fair enough.

The fact that SMS messages normally arrive nearly instantly doesn't change the fact that the service is only designed to deliver messages within 24 hours of sending, and the way SMS messages are resent if you are out of service and then go back into service means that you don't necessarily receive them instantly the moment you get signal back. (The length of time between retries increases as the delivery failures occur, so it could be up to several hours between resend attempts). This issue can be further compounded by network congestion.

Orange (and the other networks) does not send messages in the early hours, but cannot prevent messages sent during the day time being received during those hours in some circumstances.

I'm in the same boat as a lot of you here,

My contract runs out on the 19th DEC and I am tempted by the iphone but the fact that I don't get any discount for being a orange customer on a contract for the last 2x18 month contracts is putting off.

I would like an iphone but I don't want a 24month contract and fork out the 170 odd quid for the 3GS.

I have a nokia N73 btw had this for years :p

I was weak. Went for a 3GS 16MB - 18m, £35pm.

Traded me current phone and got the price of the iPhone back, and I managed to blag the insurance for free.

It's an absolutely stunning piece of kit. I was so worried about getting one but it's just fantastic in every single way. My favourite bit is the apps. So many to choose from, a lot of free ones too.

Did you do the trade in in store?

How much was the iphone?

To get the best deal am I best to pop in store?

I rang orange yesterday and they said they were stuck on pricing on the iphone.

I said I was willing to pay 125 quid for the 3GS if they could do 18months at £29.36 they said no.

Think I may use the cancel contract technique and call their bluff. :p
