iPhone 3GS - Available on Orange soon

isnt it the case that Apple dictate to orange what deals they can offer?

or atleast put the charges to the network really high so its hard for the networks to make any profit on them

I think Apple feel that allowing people to bend the tariffs would "devalue" the phone and as such have instructed Orange not to move at all.

I'm still mulling it over, i've already had Orange phoning offering me an upgrade (my contract expires next week) and I told them that if they decided to move on their stupid iPhone tariffs then to give me a call back. :)

I'm currently monitoring some other options - N900, HD2 to name but two.

im the same, contract runs out next week and looking for my next upgrade and i know that they wont budge on the iphone but i bet they will bend over backwards to offer me a deal on any other handset

there is just nothing out on orange that i fancy though

You will more then likely find a history of upgrades being worse deals then new connections every year. this year the playing field is equal same deals for new and existing regarding the iphone and people still are not happy ;)

There should be some nice dec insentives mate if your want to wait? :)

i am happy to wait, im still using my old sony k800i, its solid as a rock and lasted me a long time

i did get the omnia when it came out but didnt really like it , so i sold it

i like the look of the HTC HD2 but that doesnt seem to be coming to orange but my guess is that there will be some nice new phones coming in future months

This is the same situation that happened on O2, there is a common factor between both situations that could be having an impact...

I figured as much, but all i was trying to do with my post was point out why people are annoyed that there is no reward for loyalty.

Good guess considering there is always something good coming soon.

lol, yeh, i suppose so

what i meant was that android 2 will be out soon and there will be some nice new phones using that

tis what im waiting for , i think , before i decide

is it just me or is it looking most likely networks will phase out the 12 and 18 months contracts and only offer 24 months in the future ? :(

Personally I think they should phase out contacts entirely. Want a £400 phone, buy a £400 phone. Then buy (much cheaper) a call plan totally seperatly.

You don't get a 'free' computer from your ISP then pay £100 a month for a year - so why do that with phones?

Actually quite a lot of ISPs offer 'free' computers if you sign up.

The networks already do this, but it isn't anywhere near as popular as the handset subsidy approach with customers.

I'm just going to wait until my existing iphone contract ends and see what's available then. Mine ends 1st May 2010, perfect timing for the 4th gen iphone.

For me o2s 2g coverage is good (only gprs around here though). 3g coverage is simply non-existent. In comparison, Orange and T-Mobile have full 3g (HSDPA) masts within a few minutes walk from my house.

But then the sales of expensive handsets would plummet; people aren't going to pay a huge amount upfront for a phone (unless it's the iPhone, it seems).

Another thing worth noting for those trying to decide between O2 and Orange for their iPhone is that O2 now unlock all pay monthly iPhones (and PAYG ones after 12 months) whereas with an Orange supplied handset you are stuck with using an Orange SIM. Worth thinking about if you are planning on selling the iPhone either during or after your contract period as an 'officially' unlocked iPhone will be worth quite a bit more than other iPhones locked or unlocked by dodgy methods.
