Something to mark the phone down for? I don't think so, no.

I can't think of any reason I would ever, or have ever, needed such a counter built into the phone. If I was ever curious how many texts I'd used or whatever, I just login to my O2 account.

(I also fear this is kinda taking this thread off-topic. Really a discussion for the main thread, not the iPhone 4 Problems thread)
Not marking it down, just thought it was odd, and I was used to my old Nokia doing it when I wanted a quick reference to make sure I was within limits.

Posted in here as I was confused to what thread I was in lol - sorry for going off topic there :D

EDIT: O2 app doesn't seem to count texts, stays at zero. Oh well :)

Back on topic...

If you have to touch it, you blew it.

The new iPhone 4. The first truly wireless phone. Reinvented.

Out of utter curiosity, does Android offer such a thing?

It lets you see an in depth view of each call you have made so you can see all the details of it by default.

I'm sure there was an overall call timer somewhere in the settings but I am unable to find it at the present time (perhaps due to the fact my phone isn't running the stock software).

As you say though, I know there are several Apps on Android that allow this, I have no doubt they are on iPhone too :)

Good news on the horizon, though I am skeptical as they could do any number of things with the software to bodge it and make it display more bars, but hopefully not -

iOS 4.0.1 is coming and will fix the antenna issue

The fix is expected to address a issue in iOS 4 related to radio frequency calibration of the baseband. Readers who saw the original forum discussions say that the issue is believed to occur when switching frequencies; because the lag is allegedly not calibrated correctly, it results in the device reporting "no service" rather than switching to the frequency with the best signal to noise ratio.

Additional readers have shared other related experiences that also corroborate the idea that the issue is related to iOS 4's software control of the baseband, including the fact that the issue seems easily reproducible when connecting to a WWAN 3G network but does not appear when connecting to a Microcell 3G. If the problem were simply hardware related issues of the antenna design, it should only affect iPhone 4 units with that new design and should occur at all times, regardless of the tower type. That is not being observed.

Who knows, time will tell I guess :)

I didn't realise people bought the iPhone to actually use it for calls.

Mine is just for show - I have a 10 year old Nokia for voice calls ;) :p

lol..........Glad I have to wait till January 2011 for my contract to finish, all will be sorted by then.
We've got an Apple fanboi at work and like the majority of them, he's irritating. Any other phone is no good, its rubbish, it doesn't do this, it doesn't do that. Soon went quiet when I asked him if the iPhone 4 supported flashplayer tho' hehehe

Just rang devloper technical support @ apple

He said , Apple are still looking into it and theirs no "official line" hes been told to take with customers.

I said i was adverse to buying a bumper but he did not cave in, guess thats a trip to abuse a genius bar rep then LOL.

Out of pure curiosity I took my case off my 3GS with iOS4, and had a go at holding the iPhone both just at the top loosely and then at the same connection point as the issue with iPhone 4.

I have full signal on both 3G and Wi-Fi that magically drops 3 bars and one Wi-Fi bar on holding it the 'antenna' way, absolute crazy! I use a case all the time but, it's terrible that such a issue occurs in it's natural state.

I wonder if it was a issue on the previous OS, as I shan't be restoring to find out.
Same here

No joy here either, they didn't even advise me to buy a bumper but just use a headset :(

Not going to bother going to an Apple store, as the nearest one is too far away.

I noticed on mine when you scroll from home screen two back to home screen one, the screen flickers once 'very' minutely when home page one appears. Only does it when swiping from page two to page one (not when pressnig home button to get there) and doesn't do it when swiping from search page back to home page one. ONLY when swiping from page two to page one, very odd!

This signal problem is amusing.

I had my iPhone 4 resting in my left hand (as I then tap/pinch etc with my right hand) and it gradually went down from 5 bars of O2 3G to 1 bar. Then put it back on the patio table and it slowly went back up to 5 bars.
Then I put my handkerchief over my left hand and rested the iPhone 4 back in it. This time it only went down from 5 bars of O2 3G to 4 bars. Then I got someone to pull the handkerchief out (which proves how the iPhone 4 was resting in my hand, not being gripped tightly!) and the signal slowly went down to 1 bar.

For reference, this was outside in Bath with the iPhone 4 connected to WiFi.

TLDR: Having the iPhone 4 resting in my left hand but insulated makes it drop 1 bar, without the insulation it drops 4 bars.

Apologies for keep mentioning "iPhone 4", it's because I've still got my 3GS so have been comparing them!

while android/bb owners are going to have a field day trolling iphone 4 owners about its silly antena, even apple fanbois cant defend bad technical design and should be giving apple a kicking for this.

but i guess ol stevie jobs was right, the iphone 4 is magical, not needing to touch any buttons or the screen to end a call is pretty magical ;) and it is changing the way we communicate....you dont /trollover hehe

Thing is I really don't find the problem any worse than it was on my 3GS. In areas of poor signal quality holding it at the bottom would often result in complete loss of signal. Other halfs was the same and as soon as she changed to another network with better coverage the problem was solved.

So I don't really see what all the fuss is about. There wasn't this fuss last time round and as far as I can tell its the same. Not worse, just not improved.

i keep calling friends with iphone4s' and keeps cutting out after around 30seconds to 1 min of call time. there is no gradual degradation, it just suddenly stops. is this happening to lots of you too?

appart from apple saying the new design would fix the signal issues of the older models, and i guess technically it does...it just has new issues lol

i duno how u can be content with no improvement over a year of development and an aweful lot of money invested.
