Have you read the thread?

It depends on signal strength to some degree (depending on what type of mast you are connected to). Things like that.

Did they have any 32gb's in stock???...i was there fri and i got the reception problem right away.

I think this has been blown out of proportion.

Since hearing of this problem I tried the same thing with my original iphone 3G 8GB holding it lightly in my left hand. It drops from 5 bars to 3 in just over 10 seconds everytime I try it here at work, and when back on my desk it's straight back to 5.

I the two years I have owned this phone it's the first time I realised it does it and I'm sure I never would have otherwise. How many people would have noticed this on the iphone 4 if it wasn't in the news?

Anyway, hopefully it will make it easier for me to pick one up soon.

Losing 2 bars is not the same as going from full on 5 bar 3G to 1 bar edge though.

Quite a lot, me included, seeing as that's how you naturally hold the phone in your left hand.

I've had to buy a £4 case off eBay to solve the issue in the meantime.

Just read on Engadget there are some proximity sensor issues being widely reported now, anyone here have them? (I saw one or two people mention it)

Maybe add it as an option to the poll?

For those of us who are still yet to buy one would the general consensus be to hold off and see if the software fix actually sorts out the antenna issue?

I've just covered the metal band on the LHS from about halfway up down to the first grill (mic IIRC) with masking tape. Now holding it reduces the signal from 5 bars of O2 3G down to 4 bars. Rip off the masking tape and it'll go from 5 bars down to 1 bar.

Now to order a film/skin to do the same but be clear.... too many on the market!

Ok thanks, i'll give it a few charge cycles over this next week and if it hasn't improved by next weekend i'll take a trip to the apple store.

EDIT: Just to illustrate how bad my battery life is, i've fully charged my phone before i went to bed last night and took a screen shot of it's usage and battery life this morning and it's quite plain to see:

What I do see there is yet another Orange iPhone with 1 bar! Mine lives most of its life like that! :(

Apple are a bunch of con artists

AppleCare iPhone 4 antenna troubleshooting procedures said:
1. Keep all of the positioning statements in the BN handy – your tone when delivering this information is important.
a. The iPhone 4’s wireless performance is the best we have ever shipped. Our testing shows that iPhone 4’s overall antenna performance is better than iPhone 3GS.
b. Gripping almost any mobile phone in certain places will reduce its reception. This is true of the iPhone 4, the iPhone 3GS, and many other phones we have tested. It is a fact of life in the wireless world.
c. If you are experiencing this on your iPhone 3GS, avoid covering the bottom-right side with your hand.
d. If you are experiencing this on your iPhone 4, avoid covering the black strip in the lower-left corner of the metal band.
e. The use of a case or Bumper that is made out of rubber or plastic may improve wireless performance by keeping your hand from directly covering these areas.

2. Do not perform warranty service. Use the positioning above for any customer questions or concerns.
3. Don’t forget YOU STILL NEED to probe and troubleshoot. If a customer calls about their reception while the phone is sitting on a table (not being held) it is not the metal band.
4. ONLY escalate if the issue exists when the phone is not held AND you cannot resolve it.
5. We ARE NOT appeasing customers with free bumpers – DON’T promise a free bumper to customers.

"Appease". Appease?!. That'll be "sir" to you. The same "sir" that spent £600 of his finest English pounds on that telephone. Also the same sir that bought the top model of your previous telephone. And the top model of your telephone before that.
