Iphone 5 why so underwhelming?

I think The Verge's review is spot on tbh (and I have probably posted it 3 times in this thread already)

But there's also another segment of the market, of which I consider myself a part. That segment thinks that there's still a lot of work to be done in mobile devices; still a lot of innovation to come. And that's not innovation for the sake of innovation. I mean real innovation in the way we use our phones, in the flexibility of those operating systems, in how those devices become an extension of ourselves. For that segment, I think the iPhone 5 and iOS 6 fall short. There's a lot more work to be done, but right now Apple seems to be in a holding pattern, too comfortable or too scared to take real chances.

Righty o...finally got round to an apple store to have a look at the all new singing iphone5 and my first impression...MEH. Other than being taller, thinner and lighter it just didnt impress me at all. iOS6 didnt really wow me, other than the new maps, which reminded me of google maps on my S3 it really really didnt do anything for me. I walked out of the shop after 10 mins feeling meh about the iphone5. Its not a phone that wowed me.

Would i get one??..HELL no, its too much money for a phone that really doesnt stand out to me. I was interested in the 32gb until i saw that they wanted £600:eek:.

Saying that, i have my tmobile upgrade due now and im not sure ill upgrade to the iphone5 even if to sell it. Tmobile want £150 upfront for the 32gb model on a £40 per month tariff over 24mths. Not even worth considering tbh and tmobile wont budge on the price.

I have a feeling that this could very well be the beginning of the end for apple, absolutely no innovation on the iphone from day one in all honesty. Sure they are lovely looking phones from a physical point of view but thats about it really. iOS hasnt changed much from the first iteration as far as i can see, i didnt find anything outstanding about the new iOS. Just a screen full of icons and rows and rows of them:p, one thing i love about my S3 is that i can customise every single pane if i wanted to.

All this is good for you but when I was in the apple store I saw wave after wave of people saying how this was the best phone ever and they wished they could get it, its quiet funny but when it is an apple product there is something about it that automatically programs people into thinking this is the best thing ever. I heard them say how it was just so amazing and the software was so much better (most of them had 4s) and so on.

Personally I like the phone, the design looks amazing but it is also so easy to damage, one of the units in the store had a huge mark on that back, and that would really scary me that you couldn't really do anything without it get damaged.

The screen is really amazing, I love Aomleds for their nice deeps blacks and the iPhone 5 screen is not to far behind, and in other aspects it has the best colour production in a phone, although those punchy colours are always nice.

The fast was really nice and fast, and everything about it was very snappy and o lag or anything. Wifi also seemed to be much better.

iOS is the real problem for me, the lack of any innovation or risk taking is really getting boring, when you see things like 3 new wallpapers part of the change log you can really see things aren't as good as they once was. Also basic UI innovation like the swiping across screens have to wait for a major OS really which means basic things are way behind. Like making a huge deal about the new mail app that has the pull down refresh which has only been around for 3 years. It is all just too boring and safe from apple, everyone else is really thinking about making a UI that is great for users while apple seems very content to keep everything how it is and add very tiny changes that really don't need a major OS release for. This plus the fail of a maps is really off putting right now for me, more so that to even get transit navigation you need to use an external app which is horrible experience, when your 1st party apps need help from the 3rd party. Lack of real mulit-tasking is also a bit annoying, when apps like tweet-bot and so on don't keep refreshing unless you re-open the app.

Finally the new 4" screen is very unapple instead of doing it to really push the phone and UI forward its like hey we have a bigger screen, you get more mail and such blah blah it just not really them.

Overall if your looking at it from a phone point of view it is amazing, however right now for me at least the OS is holding things back.
