Iphone 5 why so underwhelming?

I have a Galaxy Nexus. The earpiece and loudspeaker are too quiet, but that aside it is a very good phone.
I paid £280 for it sim free brand new. It is basically an S2 with an (slightly worse) S3 screen. The phone is fast and the screen is crisp.
It is by no means a perfect phone and the new Nokia, HTC One X and S3 are better, but for the price I paid I am content.

I am very underwhelmed by the new Iphone.

N111ck only posts the virtues of Apple products it's fair to say and considering the displays exhibit extremely different properties with one being OLED and the other an IPS LCD I guess you'll have to forgive the fact that the comparison only comments on LCD properties in good light. that and it's posted by an Apple blog.

Most of that article was slating the colour calibration of the S3, which can be changed in settings..

And it's very subjective anyway. I love the over-saturation of colours on SAMOLED screens and with CM9 I increase it even further.

Some of the other points in the article are valid, pentile is less sharp and the colour does change at narrow viewing angles but for me SAMOLED is the daddy.

Seems the iPhone 5 has a better display than the SG3:

So more powerful than an SG3 and now a better display - no wonder Samsung are going with that desperate marketing campaign.

That's hilarious, its an apple fan site, that show you the spec on the GS3 as being equivalent to the IP5 based on dimensions then shows a chart based on visual assessment by a person, and they just make up some results.
Laughable, but I'm swayed, were do I queue.

"A comprehensive side-by-side examination of the Apple and Samsung flagship smartphones was performed by display testing firm DisplayMate Technologies"

;)

Whether its worth the upgrade or not is a very personal choice. I thought it was worth it from a 4S. The design of the phone and larger screen alone were enough to me.

Never used android once and don't keep up to date on any phone hardware specs/benchmarks so how it fares up against others is irrelevant to me

I wouldn't worry about what N111ck says as he is an Apple Fanboy.

I have already stated in another post that benchmarks can vary wildly and have shown results where the S3 results are both worse AND better than the iPhone but he won't let that get in the way of his argument ;)

Who cares about benchmarks, it means nothing with day to day usage.

Except that they do. While you can't 100% gauge a device's exact performance from a single set of benchmarks, you can get a fairly good idea of how devices stack up against each other from a set of benchmarks.

Agreed, IF they were clear cut but in the example of S3\IP5, they are not consistent i.e. one set of results has S3 as better, another set says IP5 is better.

Still not sure why people are ignoring the LG Optimus G which beat them all in some tests :p

no you don't :) yes if they ran the same OS but now no :)

Righty o...finally got round to an apple store to have a look at the all new singing iphone5 and my first impression...MEH. Other than being taller, thinner and lighter it just didnt impress me at all. iOS6 didnt really wow me, other than the new maps, which reminded me of google maps on my S3 it really really didnt do anything for me. I walked out of the shop after 10 mins feeling meh about the iphone5. Its not a phone that wowed me.

Would i get one??..HELL no, its too much money for a phone that really doesnt stand out to me. I was interested in the 32gb until i saw that they wanted £600:eek:.

Saying that, i have my tmobile upgrade due now and im not sure ill upgrade to the iphone5 even if to sell it. Tmobile want £150 upfront for the 32gb model on a £40 per month tariff over 24mths. Not even worth considering tbh and tmobile wont budge on the price.

I have a feeling that this could very well be the beginning of the end for apple, absolutely no innovation on the iphone from day one in all honesty. Sure they are lovely looking phones from a physical point of view but thats about it really. iOS hasnt changed much from the first iteration as far as i can see, i didnt find anything outstanding about the new iOS. Just a screen full of icons and rows and rows of them:p, one thing i love about my S3 is that i can customise every single pane if i wanted to.
