Shock as product costing £50-500 has greater market share than product costing £500-700.
Android also has more market share in the highend, this is using americans numbers so its might not be true everywhere but I was pretty shocked to find out about this based on the latest reports. Also put a huge nail into the whole people only buy android cause its cheap argument.
Now if you do the maths it works out.
High end Phones
Android 0.2 * 255 = 51 million
iOS 0.85 * 35 = 29.75 million
So there are twice as many high end Android phones being sold, so not only does Android dominate the market share at large, it also more then twice the amount of high end phones.

The UK is essentially just a replacement market for Apple smartphones, with few if any new buyers. The real growth possibilities for Apple is in emerging markets but their products are way to expensive for the average punter there. Android market share worldwide now 85% and Apple at 11%. A new larger screen, expensive iphone is not going to solve this problem for Apple. And yesterday we learn that China Mobile, Apple's largest carrier in China is cutting $ 2 billion from subsidies on smartphones that will positively boost local Android based manufacturers who sell SIM free. Apple's SIM free high price will be seen in all its glory there.
Conclusion: iphones are a niche business, yet highly profitable because of marketing glitz by Apple.
I would agree, Apple makes a huge amount of money today, but the future is in the next 6billion users, none of which are interested in paying £500+ for a smartphone, and as such the iPhone won't grow as much. The rest of Apples business is not too great, mac sales are going along fine, iPad has been a bit shakey and as a whole no one is exactly sure where it fits in yet, the iPhone accounts for a huge amount of Apples sales and I really feel they need something in the mid rage (not a iPhone 5c with 8gb that still costs £429 like wtf).
Will see off course, but I personally feel they need to be a bit more competitive or they might start becoming irrelevant. I mean they lost a lot of users to big screen Android device, no matter how good the iPhone is they will never get them all back. You can see the current growth rates and there not keep up at all, and everyone else is just dyeing off. It could be that just Apple fans are left with iPhones and everyone else goes android at some point.
