Iphone apps

Why do people feel the need to justify not having an iphone and ram down people's throats that what they have is better / just as good?

Yeah there are lots of nice phones out there, the iphone is just an example of one well marketed smartphone.

Probably because they are just stating facts from their end. Are we not allowed to reply when an iPhone user states that every other device is far more complex and difficult to use?

Also it could be due to the contant "wow look at my iPhone and what it can do!" that non iPhone users have to put up with, oh and the smugness that goes with it. I've had two occasions where i've been replying to a text in a corner and friends have commented. One saying "I'm suprised someone like you didn't get an iPhone" *as he pulls out his iPhone and lays it on the table*.. The other "You still got that knock off iPhone!" *as he pulls out his iPhone*...

Never mind the fact the HD is a far more useable tool for me and it is totally different to the iPhone except in that it has very few buttons and a very large screen...

Yeah that may sound bitter, I just get tired of the same comments by iPhone users. ;)

I've not really seen many people in here saying an iphone is better.

I thought this was a thread about the applications / why apple has so many compared to others?

Feel free to keep justifying not having a iphone (or tell us you like whipping your hero out like G|mp :D)

I still don't quite understand what you are on about. I replied to Flukesters post which insinuated that other non iPhone devices are complex to use.

But yeah it does seem to have gone off topic slightly. :p

The general consensus seems to be however that the majority of apps are really just replacements for flash and large pages that other phone users don't really need, either because they can view flash or can view larger pages. For example why have a facebook app when you can quite happily use the full facebook website on your phone (without having to scroll)?

It can be a nit annoying however for non page specific programs and quite a few of the best programs for wm are starting to show their age a bit. :)

No I don't whip my hero out in front of the girls, one because I don't have one, two because I don't need to (;)) and three my phone is my own choice so unless someone specifically asks me about it or for help with choosing a phone I won't talk about it. :p

Going from a omnia which had flash to iphone I have never EVER once missed it... you just don't really need it. Sure they will have to add it at some point, but the whole interweb does not rely on it.

Having mult apps open at once is not a deal breaker, just don't need it really.... it also makes most phones chug abit (my missus has a pre and though the OS is god like the hw can't cope)

Email warning pops up, I check email and close it... want to check facebook I open it and close it, want to check ebay I open it and close it etc etc. I would like live feeds though.

The only time I've missed it a little is when streaming radio and wanted to check email, but tbh the phone is so lightening quick im back to the radio in seconds.

Surely you are changing the way you work or want to work to suit the devices short comings?

I think people must remember there is no silver bullet here, every phone I have owned has been a compromise and one of the biggest compromises is the network you are on, who sell "internet based" phones and then cap your unlimited internet package at 200/500mb has to be one of the most limiting factors for almost all smart phones on the move unless you can hijack WiFi :D ;)

Relax dude...i asked a simple question and got an answer for it:)...as for being bitter dont be silly:confused:...i give the iphone its dues where it deserves it ie web browsing....still waiting for all these phone manufacturers to come up with a true iphone killer...as of yet i havent seen anything that comes close to the iphone web browsing experience.

I dont hate the device...i think its a pretty nifty device as it is but my main gripes with it is the frankly stupid battery life...i mean to get any decent useage out of it you need to turn off 3G then turn off apples incarnation of push email, which lets face it isnt 'true' push email lol. Also the lack of true multi tasking is something that im not keen on...but i guess if they added multi tasking the battery would last minutes rather than hrs lol.

I am hoping apple with the next incarnation of the iphone improve the battery and add multi tasking...then i might consider getting one.

Aye, the battery life is the only issue for me but I don't find 3G kills the battery but push certainly does.

Why is it not real push? My iPhone always goes off at the same time I get an email through from someone at work.

I've never had a problem on a standard O2 tariff with my HD, their Unlimited is apparently 2GB though so not many on a smartphone would be able to break that barrier!

That also includes using it as a modem when on the move, or as iPhone users call it "tethering". Not allowed technically but I've never heard anything from O2. :D

It's like this........

Mr iphone and Mr Hero are in a bar, they both pull 3 super sexy hot young things, all good.

They all get home Mr iphone goes to bed with the blonde.

Mr Hero goes to bed with the blonde, brunette and the redhead.

Mr Hero can do all 3, Mr iphone has to quit 'out' of the Brunette and roll over to see the Redhead.

:D

I'm G|mp and buying the Hero over the iphone was my idea.

I have a Hero and will be staying with Android, but I still think the iPhone is the best UI on the market with the best mobile browsing.

I sell mobile services (amongst other things) but not iPhones. And yet, I have two iPhones. Why? I'm dammed sure it isn't because I'm concerned about fashion items, especially not one that is hidden away for 99% of the time. No, I got them because the iPhone was far superior to anything else around at the time. And I haven't seen anything else to beat it yet.

Envy?

Not sure where that comes into it. I'm not exactly envious that there exists a Natwest iphone app, more frustrated that I can see the way things are headed.

I'd consider an iPhone if the hardware was better - but its not. Things like not being able to multitask and not having some sort of hardware keyboard are in my opinion inexcusable and stop me considering the iPhone.

I was having an MSN convo with a contact the other day and he went offline. He came back a bit later and said 'Sorry, im on my iphone and I had to reply to a text'

Seriously, WTF?

So, you think the iPhone is nothing more than a fashion item. Tell me again, what is it you drive? :p :D :D ;)

Not really sure I get your point here?

[TW]Fox - The same thing happened with the iPod and iTunes. Im afraid its not going to get any better until Apples competitor actually start making their mobile platforms impossible to ignore for developers and customers alike.

The only reason I got an iPhone is simple because there was/still really isnt anything mature enough to direct compete with it - its simple not anything to do with the hardware and basing any objections/astonishment just on that is pretty narrow-sighted.

I understand your concern as going back to the iPod comparison you can see the iPhone platform moving towards that direction (of course its never going to be as dominant) - Apple need to be stopped ;)...

ps3ud0

Why do you need a hardware keyboard? I haven't missed having a keyboard at all.

People who think its the best phone ever are deluded. I like mine, it's pretty good, not multi-tasking can be inconvenient but it's not the worst thing ever.

I take the pee out of my iPhail all the time, for now I'm fairly happy with it but will soon be looking for something else.

I haven't missed the hardware keyboard also, only downside of it being it's much harder to type without looking at the screen. And there are also things i hate about the iphone, the camera is absolutely awful, if it's slightly dark then the photo comes out black, if your subject is in motion then the photo is just a blur. And the lack of native multitasking is annoying sometimes.

Not the best phone, but the things it does well it does incredibly well.

I dont get why a lot of people are saying the iphone cant multi-task. Using Safari while listening to music at the sametime, so it can BUT Apple only allow their own apps to multi-task(which is stupid). Even though, its down to Apples software rules and regulations not the iphone hardware.

Well when it can properly multitask you can bet it will be a worlwide revolution =]

Only because Apple will make it sound like its the best thing since sliced bread:p....i mean nevermind that they would be the last to the multi tasking party when most if not all smartphones on the market can easily multi task.

Didn't think you were posting in 'ere again?

Apple need to market their products, of course they're going to make it out to be fantastic.
