I hear there's a new version of the iPhone coming out that will have 3G on it amongst other things... What other features are there? And is it worth it to wait for it? I'm aware that there's currently no release date so I'm guessing it's at least 1-2 months away?

Rumoured for June I believe, at the moment AFAIK 3G will be the only addition.

Not sure if it is worth the wait depends how much you use HSDPA?

I get along fine with my iPhone just using Wi-fi for internet.

Ok. I've never actually used the internet on any phone so that'd be a no.

I've read various threads about people not getting the O2 contract and just buying the phone and then unlocking it and putting in another SIM in the phone... Surely then though you wouldn't get the unlimited data thing that the O2 offer gives? Is data not expensive without a tariff?

I think it will likely not come with HSPDA support (unless patched); when people turn that on it really would chop the battery life.

I think you have to consider how much you actually need 3G.

It *will* have a shorter battery life than any GSM phone (EDGE), and unless it supports both 3G and GSM you won't get as good coverage indoors (except when on O2) or in the countryside.

I'm currently making this decision myself. I might just buy now and upgrade in June, who knows :D

I bought the 8Gb version on friday and I am currently using an orange PAYG sim. After trying the internet through GRPS (which I think cost quite a lot judging by my balance), im more than happy to just use WiFi where available.

I am really liking the phone though.

If the iphone v2 has a better camera and HSDPA, combined with the new SDK it will be a serious contender.

Vodafone/o2 have atrocious data rates which arent worth it imo.

o2 has good data rates now, check them out and vodafone have 120mb allowance for £7.50 which is crap! o2 have no data limits only a fup as they ditched the 200mb limit at the start of of feb!

A lot of people do just buy it for the fashion sense, I think more than will use all the features.

Not really, the iphone is an awsome piece of kit with some pretty cool software and a great community.

Anyone who thinks its a just a fashion item either hasnt got a clue or just likes slating them because they are stuck in a contract with a crap phone:p

Well, I've used one and found it lacking. Besides the web browsing (which is admittedly great) its all style over substance. So much missing but the magpies lap it up regardless. Don't think you can count features that are only available by jailbreaking to be honest, as it's obvious Apple never intended you to do that and will always be breaking it with new firmware.
