ipod classic just arrived

Nope, it's a £25 'extra' from the apple store. You charge it via the USB or Firewire.

Edit: just checked the apple store, its £19 now.

all ipods have gash sound quality, with the standard earphones. A decent set of Audio-Technica CK9 WH then maybe.

Improved battery life with the new classic apparently. I'll let you know how i get on soon.

How long should i charge it for? Is it ok to plug it into my works computer to charge, then trasfer songs when i get home?

For the price, you'll find it hard to beat in terms of battery life and capacity. The sound is aweful with the tiny sounding earphone that came with it - i didn't touch it or even open it when I got myself a Nano 3rd gen.

A good pair e.g. CX300, PX100 or even paired with a HD201 makes things sound a heck of a lot better.

And yes, you can charge it and then transfer it later.

I leave mine docked till the battery says its full - around 2hrs from low.

Dr Jones- thanks. Can i transfer a few songs onto it or would that mess it up for later use. I dont mind reformatting, id only be putting a few albums on for the weekend travels :)

Assuming you're using iTunes; quick creation of a playlist you want, plug it in to chrge and whilst doing so, you can transfer the selected playlist to your iPod, not a problem at all. Then when you're back from your Holiday, transfer all into it by adjusting the Sync settings.

I use Beyerdynamic DT931s. Even with them, iPods sound crap.

iRiver h140 with everything ripped to level 10 Ogg Vorbis. The betamax of 'mp3' setups ;)

...And by that I mean 'massive but superior'

lol you sure you dont want to be spoon feed aswell its an IPOD they are made for nerbutts it aint hard.

When you say iPod "classic"... I thought you meant real classic.

I still use my first gen 5GB iPod that I bought before iTunes for windows was even released. It's awesome. It's got a wheel that spins and a low resolution white LED backlit screen. Battery lasts for about 6-8 hours.
