it does not matter what version it is at the moment does it, that hardly going to make the charging icon appear. Plug it in for 10 mins and see if the battery icon has increased.
ppppft!! i've 30GB Classic iopd / 5th Gen , + £40 sony headphones and the sound quallity is perfect!! batt lasts over a week for me & thats with Itrip also
i doubt the sound quality is as you say "Perfect" when you have a decent set of noise cancelling headphones/earphones then maybe your getting closer but you will never reach "Perfect" not even with high quality music rates.
