Bodies in rivers or not, we are in 2006 now. There are some absolutely amazing things the feds can do, with DNA in particular, but forensics in general.

Bear in mind people, that in order to arrest a person you simlply need reasonable grounds to 'suspect' a person of an offence.

I know nothing about it personally, obviously, but i have a great deal of faith in the abilities of the police. More so forensicaly than anything else. They may have arrested him on whatever evidence they have that's simply given them grounds to suspect, but they would not go to the CPS with anything short of concrete evidence, and the CPS would not agree to charge with anything they even remotely thought wouldn't stand up in court.

Wait and see if he's charged, if he is then my money says they have some fantastic evidence to back that charge.

Whether he did it or not is not for me, you or the media to decide, that's on the jury.

i'm glad you do... both the stockwell and the house raid/shooting of those innocent muslims earlier this year come to mind.

seems they have arrested a second man... i have little confidence these are the people responsible mind.

The fact they have arrested a second man says to me that they arent confident they got the guy the first time round :o
Its not unknown for serial killers to operate in pairs or even groups.

perhaps the 'protector' guy was arrested because they thought the killer would come after him next, as he is getting the "credit" for his work, even though he claims to protect them. Of course it could just be some random guy, killing some girls because hes insecure

Ipswich Ripper - Second Suspect Arrest

A 48-year-old man will be questioned later today on suspicion of murdering five prostitutes in Suffolk - he is the second man to be held in the case.

He was arrested at his home on the outskirts of the Ipswich red light district at 5am this morning.

Police are continuing to quiz Tom Stephens, 37, following his arrest in Trimley, Suffolk, on Monday.

They have been given another 12 hours to question him.

Sky News' Crime Correspondent Martin Brunt said the second man to be arrested lived on his own in a bedsit, was a client of local prostitutes and was "well known" to women who worked the area.

A dark blue Ford Mondeo was taken away by police and scaffolding is being erected outside the home.

Lou, a prostitute who works in the red light district, said the suspect was "just a normal punter".

"He used to come down, pick us up, take us back to his flat and that's it," she said.

The flat has been cordoned off by police, and forensics officers are in the property.

Tania Nicol was caught on CCTV in London Road before she died.

A former special constable, supermarket worker and part-time taxi driver, Stephens told a Sunday newspaper he knew all five women and lacked alibis for some of the nights they went missing. But he insisted he was innocent.

Tom Stephens was arrested on Monday

Forensic teams are conducting a fingertip search of his garden.

The bodies of the five women were found naked in rural locations south of Ipswich.

Gemma Adams, 25, was found in Belstead Brook at Hintlesham on December 2.

Tania Nicol, 19, was found at Copdock on December 8; Anneli Alderton, 24, at Nacton on December 10; Paula Clennell, 24, at Levington on December 12, and Annette Nicholls, 29, also at Levington on the same day.
