iRacing

Picnic,

The Late Model on the Road is GREAT fun and so fun to power slide round corners, its iRacings hidden gem!
KnightStalker,

just a heads up Knight, The jetta series dont run races every day think its wed, fri, sun and Monday.

I would highly recommend the Skip Barber though..some great races.

Thanks for the heads up, i wont be racing in it for a while yet so plenty of time to read into it, just getting to grips with the soltice again, after 3 months away its a tail happy car, never used to be lol

Yeah there has been quite a few updates since then KnightStalker,

There is a new tire model due as well, which should change everything again. Thats what I love about this sim, its constantly improving and evolving.

They are striving for perfection and i tip my hat for that.

To see how far they have come, look at the screen shots of zandvoort

point map from laser scanning :

Only public screen shot i could find!

Ah that would be why im almost 2 secs off the pace on seca, used to run 48's all the time now i can barely get into 49's very annoying, a few of the corners i was flat, if i try that now the rear starts to come round its mind boggling. Ill get there again.

Knight,

Download Ispeed and use the Telemtry analyzer to compare your lap with someone faster. You can then see where you are losing time etc.

And remember the golden rule.. Slow in / Fast out :)

iSpeed is the most amazing thing ever. Could probably gain about 2s on this track just by comparing my best with someone elses

iSpeed is really good, although I found it a bit annoying as I'd be looking at it mid-lap, even mid-corner on occasion, not great for consistency :p but it does help with improving lap times and I turn my second monitor off whilst actually racing.

The ORO Late Model series is awesome, lovely to fling that thing through the corners :)

The updates are, for me, the best thing of iRacing, it's not perfect in every way, but I know that in ~3 weeks time we'll have a decent update of new and tweaked features, and then 3 months later another big update, just continual update awesomeness :p

I dislike the Jetta, far too dull, Skippy is where it's at for D-Class...

Im not really a fan of open-wheelers im a tin top man really, but as it stands racing anything other than the solstice is gonna cost a fortune lol :( Finally got down into the 49's on Seca so im almost back to my full previous race pace before i had a break.

just my luck. managed to break my wheel. I have it on 200deg couse I don't like using the full 900, snapped into full lock during a slide and cracked it through to 900, now the FFB motors can't grip it to set itself, just whirrs at me :(

G25 by chance? if so, take it apart and find out whats broke, ive got 3 spares laying about i can rip the part out and send. Plenty of guides on the net on how to take it apart.

Depending on the part thats broke, just checked my 3 spares, 2 of them have no cogs left in them must have gave them away at some point, the other has partially stripped cogs but everything else is fine.

right, if I have it in pieces when I start plug it in, I can get it to work in 200 :) Think without it in pieces I might be able to get it in 900.

It's a DFP. Seem to have snapped the gears off the bit that changes it between 900 and 200, and in the process dislodged the "I'm in 200 mode" switch from the casing the the button doesn't get pressed. Hopefully some glue will fix it all up, after I remove all this lube from my hands, really is well lubed in there.

I'm quite impressed with how these things worked, never really thought about it before :)

Ahh the DFP is quite robust in its build (had one at the time of the first release), you must have put some force into it buddy lol i managed to twist the plastic for the wheel when i had mine lol, totally forgetting it defaulted to 200 i thought it was 900 so tryed to spin the wheel and wham.

Yeah, was having a bad practice session, was getting very forceful with it. most of the damage was caused by/to the "blocker" bit of plastic after the wheel managed to fall off it and I kept driving

Guess I'm going to need a G25 now, no way I'm going to be able to glue these teeth back on and still have the cogs pick them all up... unless it's the same piece as used on the G25 and you have a spare ;)

As far as im aware they dont share any real internals even though the G25 is closely related to the DFP, all i can say is look around on ebay for cheap DFP's if you want to fix it, or if you want a new one forget the G27 and stick the with 25.

think I'm going to have to mod my wheel just to get it to initialise properly :| can't really afford a new wheel at the moment, used my spare money to buy some race tickets :)

EDIT: There issues with the G27 or is it just considered really over priced?

I have now completed 3 races with the Solstice at Leguna Seca, Finished 6th, DNF, 3rd.

I got taken out at the start on my second race, i was not happy. Replay shows that the guy just pulled right accross me about 100m away from the start.

Im still comtemplating about wether to continue or not. I reall want t get into the single seaters but im not paying any more for it..........yet.

what kind of lap times you getting? hit me with a PM (Alex Davies) and I'll have to race you some time

edit: got my wheel fixed to 200 now and it works fine. bit of bodge work (cable tie) and it thinks it's fine on 200. still cries if it attempts 900, but thats by design ;)

Not so much issues, 1 as you say its overpriced for what it is, 2 you lose the Seq gearbox selector, which i find is the most useful part of the 25 and i cant even begin to think why they didnt put it on the 27. The shift lights are a gimmic at best, i cant see a reason for them, a Gear indicator yes, shift lights no.

And Cobra, just take the crashes with a pinch of salt, it happens from time to time, and ill be honest in my opinion, i think most of the time its down to latency with part driver fault.
