I bet your doing what I do every week so far in the Radical, push to fast to quick.

I find a few laps following G around generally helps as I realise oooo so you dont go as fast as im trying to make certain bends. Also gives me a better feel for the actual rough driving line instead of me trying to use the force and figure it out.

Keep pushing it mate it will eventually click, first time I tried I really thought no way will I be able to drive this crazy thing life time of Mx5 racing for me. But it will come its such a rewarding car that you will keep learning with and Improving.

Now I've got the basics of the car im learning how to use the cars slide to carry speed into bends and let the car wash out the other end, also how you can chuck it into places with a dab of the brakes. Not something you want to learn straight off the bat, but it will come mate.

For example this week Ive gone from 59 seconds and thinking no way I can go any faster at road Atlanta down to 53's where I hit a wall for a day then last night broke the 52's and then took another little bit out my time finishing on a 52.7.

So basically I found 7 seconds when Monday I had no idea where and how I could make up anymore time.

going to host a radical/silverstone practice server in about an hour all welcome from here, give us somewhere to try this weeks track. The wont have a password as its not needed with the radical everyone who will join should be sound.

Yeah, was a bit quiet, I did do one Road Atlanta race, it wasn't a complete disaster :p

Gonna be away most of this coming weekend as well which is a shame as Silverstone is a nice easy track :)

had a bright idea to race the rad at silverstone tonight....hmm nobody told me it was a hour long....i think i may have lost weight while i raced on and on and on

a lowly 11th. the thing is when racing the radical everyone seems so quick with zero mistakes(unlike myself) - Been racing the skippy for a while now and I could put money on gaining places due to the 1st lap bumping and banging.......but this is not the case in the Rad.

Well done, my experience in the Radical is that anyone who can stay on the track for an hour and finish is doing ok in my book. I tend to adopt the attrition approach myself in the MX5, so doesn't bode well for my Radical debut when it finally happens! :) More practice required then (for me that is).

Silverstone is a bit of a oddity in that even if you do screw up there's so much run-off that it's rarely race-ending, usually the attrition route does very well as people like myself fling it into the nearest wall around the half way mark :p

I think the length helps as well, cause it's just so long there's even less incentive to go for places early on, just settle down, see where you are and whether you can improve that, lots of time to just whittle down a lead rather than having to take big chunks out of it :)

1 hours seems to pass very quickly, found myself racing with a guy but i just couldnt pass him, then have abit of off track which let him run off with 7 seconds ...then it was start all over again to reel him in and then have another off.... and so on and so on.

Couldnt agree more Skill, mistakes at silverstone are not race ending like at a lot of other tracks.

Thinking on trying something diff from the radical as want something that races happen every night ,and not just at weekends ( and that has a decent amount of people racing so you are sure you will get it to go live ) , but here are my problems .

What the view looks like of the car while you are driving it ( yes u can watch youtube) but does not give a proper feel esp when i am using 3 screens ( dam why do they not let you test drive a car for a few laps ? )
i am now used to using the paddles to change gear so would prefer a car with a seq gear change set up.

am looking at the following :
1. Ford falcon v8 ( i am pretty sure its seq gear changer ? )
2. Star mazda ( is this a h pattern changer ?? )
3. Skip barber ( is this a seq gear changer ?? )

Which of these are most popular leagues and have i missed any ?
as for ovals are the likes of the nascar leagues busy around the likes of 6-12pm gmt due to the time differences between here and the states.

The V8 just got updated to the NTM and is one of the most accurate cars in the game. It drives like a total pig but it's great fun.

All of those cars are Seq, including the Star Mazda. Mazda is a good car, can always get a race no problem (usually) and it's nice and easy to set up. Skippy is probably more popular, but it requires constant throttle input which I don't like so much, especially considering it's impossible to Left foot brake in real life.

If you fancy giving the ovals a try, I would try the trucks. The fixed set is usually good enough, it's relatively easy to drive (compared to the NW and COT) and it's easy to get a race at any time of day.

Just did some more watching of videos on you tube ,, and think ill drop the Ford Falcon from my list as fancy trying something with an open top view if you know what i mean , ( dont want half of my 3 screens filled with car interior )
speed wise is the Star Mazda inbetween the mx5 and the radical or near as fast as the radical ? and between the star mazda and the skippy i take it the mazda is the faster of the 2

are the catillac cts and the ford falcon simular to drive or totally diff,, as just drove the catillac cts ,, and ,,hmmm that would take a bit of getting used to :D

I find them quite different, but would not say the V8SC is easy. I still need lots more practice in the slower cars. I am really enjoying the Mustang and Solstice at the moment as I feel like I can really race them. My problem with the skippy and Radical is I feel like I am just trying to stay on track and just cannot fight with other cars as I can in the Solstice and Mustang. I'll get there eventually.

Has anyone had a go at painting their cars? I don't mean the in game painting. I had a look, but I am really rubbish at this sort of thing and even the tutorial that supposedly tells you step by step what to do goes way over my head.

In any case I browsed a bit in the Showroom thread and found quite a few nice skins people are offering for free. So I signed up to Trading paints and now I can see other people's skins and have a few myself that looks better than the in game painting.

Yeah I've painted my own but there only basic 1s as I'm usless with that stuff, spils was ment to do me a yorkshire tea paint job but he just let's me doewn all the time..

I don't mind the star mazda but find it boring abit too easy and there aint much respect in the races there dirty, well the few I've done have been...

Hi guys.
I registered for the 3 For 1 Month Deal to test it.
Moving from Race, in the hope of cleaner racing.

Been playing with the MX5 Cup + Cabillac on Laguna Seca or Yokinawa tracks.
Its fun, an darn realistic.

Been mostly playing on Test sessions, never had a race yet.
Can members show me/recommend me.

Welcome to iRacing, it really is great fun. Practice the Mazda until you feel confident with the racing line and then go enter a race to see what it is all about. Just remember the track changes every Tuesday, so make sure you practice on the correct track! Rookie races are not always that clean, so make it your priority to avoid others. If someone is too aggressive just let them go, your chance will come to race them once you are more experienced and most of the time you will see him on the side of the track a few turns later:)
